You quoted me , and what have black elves got to do with me , you brought it up . The thread is about Bond for pete`s sake !

What's Pete got to do with it?

FWIW, I quoted you on the point about kits primarily and the Ghostbusters comments was more of a way in to a wider point about people cutting off their noses despite their faces. No need to be quite so sensitive about everything. It's just a thread about a fictional character maybe getting a makeover

I guess a simple solution is that they make it clear that James Bond is an alias, much like the designation 007, which of course was reallocated in the last film. They could even have a montage of the new Bond getting up to speed with his backstory.

Missus is a bit of a Bond fan - she's working her way through the books, but she also insisted we work through all the films in order (we've got the blu-ray box set that covers the first 50 years). Looking back at the older restored films, it's interesting how many "accidental" flashes of female anatomy are visible with the fixed prints. There's loads. :lolol:

Fair point , unfortunately it is the way i am wired to things in a literal way .

Making Bond anything but a white male would kill the franchise. End it.
The thing is, Fleming wrote Bond as a 50s British agent, and that Bond was white - but that past is less relevant to today's Bond. Daniel Craig wasn't a 1950's agent, he was a modern day agent, so that's what Bond was. Obviously I think of Bond being a white British man and that does seem like the obvious choice for the character, but I'm not sure it would be wrong to have a Bond of another race, as long as they're British.

Give it Giggsy till end of season

In the top 236 posts of all time on NSC for the accent alone. Giggsy, naked Russian female agent resting her post-coital head on his hairy chest, him staring up at the ceiling with his little piggy eyes, dreaming of Alex Ferguson. The stuff of dreams, the stuff of legends.

And on that note, I’m out. (20 years and 19,600 posts too late!)

Evolved you say , what like Ghostbusters with Melissa McCarthy , change does not equal evolution , we could play in Red and Blue would that be evolving or as i believe ruin our identity . Bond is a white male , he has been since the beginning - that is his identity , and as with our magnificent Blue and white stripes ....it works perfectly !

You are right, change is not always evolution. Evolution is the adaptation to your environment over time, the current environment Bond is in has greater equality, and every Bond film has been set in the time it was made.
Also, a remake of any film can be better or worse than the original, that doesn't depend on the gender of the actors as much as the quality of them, and the screenwriting. Ghostbusters remake would have been up against it whoever was cast, because the original cast was so good. I prefer Daniel Craig's Casino Royal to David Niven's, De Niro's Cape Fear to Robert Mitchum's but other than those, no remakes spring to mind as being better than the original, most are not as good.

Bond is meant to come across as a sophisticated , public school type , tough but with wit and an eye for the ladies . As long as the new bond can fit into that typeset all will be fine . Obviously it can’t be a woman not if you want to keep the character authentic.

Some women have all of that, including an eye for the ladies. I think they should look for a male actor, but there is a part of me wanting Ruth Negga or Thandie Newton.

I'm not really feeling Ruth Negga. Loved Preacher, but not as Bond.

Thandie Newton on the other hand is an intriguing proposition. And boy would people lose their shit.

The producers have already stated that there will not be a female Bond. I thought it was done well in NTTD, Phoebe Wallops Bridgerton did a good job on tweaking the script to bring strong female agents on board.

Thandie Newton is 50. Hardly sets things up for a credible ongoing franchise (and yes I know Roger was playing Bond into his early 80s, but things have moved on since then).

Anyway, Bond needs to be a bloke IMO. Call me a stegasaurus, but a female Bond is too much of a departure from what the franchise is about. I find it really tough to imagine a woman in that utterly brutal (and brilliant) tear-up in the toilet at the start of Casino Royale taking a mans place and coming out on top. That would be stretching credibility to the limit. And I'm not overly keen on seeing women getting knocked about anyway.

It's the same insane conversation regarding Rings of Power

Dragons and Elves and Fire Demons and Cockney Goblins - FINE

A person who maybe should technically be white being black (ie some of the hobbits/dwarves/elves) - OUTRAGE

Weirdly not an issue when it's the other way around, as well...
Could you give an example of when it's been done the other way around? Because if the next Black Panther is white, I'm not watching it.

As per my last post I'm not dead against Bond not being black, because modern British agents can be any ethnicity. But like others, as a fan I feel like I know Bond a bit (even though he's had a few transformations) and it's nice to keep the character as close to as we're used to what possible. So it is perfectly reasonable to not want the character to change, without being a closet racist. As has been mentioned, we don't want Brighton changing to a red home kit, not because we don't like red, but we like the tradition of something we care about playing in the same shirts (roughly, and again with a few transformations) we're used to.

Have a strong female be another 00 agent and be involved a bit more in the movie, but keep 007 as it has always been. Simple.

Also, just to throw another name in that I think would be a fantastic Bond:

Richard Madden.

Anyone can play 007 though, it's just a number.

James Bond however is a long established character.

Whether people would pay to go see a female 007 who knows. Make it and let the box office decide.

My arguments are solid as.

As opposed to the simple types who can't offer anything that resembles a valid reasoning for changing established characters from how they were created.

You got blatant things wrong like the Scottish heritage - not part of how the character was created, only introduced after a Scotsman played him in a film - simple stuff for even you to grasp.
