Moving threads moved to the other stuff/archive

simple answer. You open a thread you hope has taken a sensible course, but on certain subjects it usually hasn't. You can't actually tell until you've opened it. And then of course, it stays near the top of the board while the usual suspects take turns abusing each other.
says one of the usual suspects ???

It's been a long time since I've jousted on one of those tedious threads with the intellectual giant that is you, DR. Then again, nobody is a match for your dramatic withering wordsmithery. It almost astonishes me that some people have you down as one of the thickest posters on this board.

I assume that you have carried out a survey to ascertain this, or perhaps just thought that you would add "plenty" to lend a bit of credence. Folk may or may not find it tedious, but quite frankly this is irrelevant. IF you find it tedious, then just ignore it, surely. By the way, I have no objection whatsoever to your suggestion that anything not directly to do with the Albion is put in the "other stuff" section. That seems quite sensible. But the same observations such as those made by yourself will surely be made there?

Agree.

I don't see any problem with the thread http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?328746-Shaker-Aamer-released-from-Guantanamo/page2

It was no more than any other general discussion on NSC. Does it deserve to be removed based on the reasons given? Probably not. Do I want to make a special request to Bozza to put back in the Main? Not really.

Excellent thread.

Perhaps it should be moved to 'the other stuff', though :lolol:

Looking at the threads moved in there, they are all the same. Tiresome immigration-related rubbish ending up with the same old people hurling insults. If the mods aren't heartily sick of them, everyone else almost certainly is (I suspect).

The most curious thing..
The other stuff was created when Google ads pulled the plug, and the revenue dried up. All threads had to go in there for a time until the mods decided what was "safe" to release into the real world. They prohttp://www.northstandchat.com/forumdisplay.php?47-Moderating-Decisionsbably didn't read most of them, so most old threads still lie there. Many could probably be released.

There is a place where mods ARE supposed to explain their actions, including bans and post deletions, but unfortunately fewer seem to bother using it these days. Mods should be accountable for their actions.

"This forum will be used by board moderators and administrators to post an explanation of moderating activities that have had to be undertaken.

Replies are not permitted, intentionally as it is not intended that moderating decisions are discussed in public. We hope members will accept that moderating posts and/or banning members is generally an action of last resort. The board is here for members to post and enjoy, it is no-one's interest to suppress posts. Unfortunately sometimes moderation is the only course of action available.

Should you wish to discuss any particular decision further, please contact the relevant moderator by PM."

I hear what you're saying but news and politics threads ARE welcome on the main board. There's plenty of them there and they don't all end up in the 'Other Stuff'. It's only when they get tired/repetitive/insulting they may get moved for the reasons HKFC, El P and myself have mentioned.

Have a read of Bozza's two posts in this link. If you think threads shouldn't have been moved, then do the actions in his 2nd post.

http://www.northstandchat.com/showt...s-forum-is-all-about-***-UPDATED-07-03-13-***

Also worth remembering this section used to be called "Childish Ramblings". Seems more apt than ever currently!

I nominate this thread to be moved to the Other Stuff/Archives sub forum for all the above reasons in bold; http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?328709-what-Reading-are-saying-on-their-Boards

"This forum will be used by board moderators and administrators to post an explanation of moderating activities that have had to be undertaken.

Considering the amount of traffic that NSC generates, the number of bans is remarkably low. I think that is testament to the majority of people who post here, who self police very well, and a general understanding of what is unacceptable, i.e. no porn, no racism, no libel.

At present, for example, there is only one person subject to a temporary ban, and this may be due to a series of yellow cards, rather than a major infraction. Often when handing out a minor infraction we are not always checking to see if the person has 'history'.

Most permanent bans are explained in the moderating decisions section. We sometimes have to deal with requests from members themselves to ban them. This could be due to issues relating to illness, family or wanting to get some work done. Under those circumstances we won't put a comment in the moderating decisions area.

There are also some Palace trolls who give it large, and may need a large sweeping up of such debris. Managing the board takes precedence over reporting at such times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise why posters such as '5-0', '26-10-02' 'Big Mal's Fedora' and 'What's wrong with burning down our own town?' were consigned to history.

Similarly there are some posters who have been banned and reappear under new names before a ban ends. Their new names are usually revenge on the person who originally banned them and so end up subject to a permanent ban, which is why posters such as 'El Pres is a Bum Bandit', 'El Pres takes it up the Council', ' El Pres sucks c*ck', 'I've got pictures of El Pres, Bozza and Carrot Cruncher in a daisy chain' are banned (although with regards to the last one, none of us can quite remember what happened at the last Mods booze up so it may be true).

In relation to the threads about race/migration/Muslims, looking at them there is nothing pleasant about the content. Within half a dozen comments we enter a Groundhog day scenario between those on the right and others. Some people think it is acceptable to use the letter 'v' instead of 'u' for words beginning with F and C too, which doesn't help.

I cannot recall a single instance in which I have thought there was any chance of a rapproachement between the warring parties on such threads. There is no debate as such, just mud flinging and abuse.

I am sure most posters are fully aware that Hans Kray and El Presidente could both be described as extreme right wing....I think ?

I must confess to being slightly bring back the birch hurt by that suggestion cjd that my right Eine Volk, Eine Reich, Eine Fuhrer wing tendencies are so transparent here on NSC and that they could Maggie Maggie Maggie influence my objectivity when making hangings too good for them, decisions on NSC.

I strive to be strictly No Muslims No Irish No Dogs impartial when reviewing posts and threads, and do my best to ensure that any they'll be making homosexuality compulsory next personal views that I may hold are not reflected in there's nothing wrong with carnal relations with a pig my posts.

i understand you now have the option of banning people from contributing to a thread if they are being dickheads .........why not use this option first before moving the thread to the other stuff

Because if we banned the dickheads from such threads they wouldn't exist in the first place.
