The guardian is, the poll taken at the end isn't, don't think anyone is to concerned by that. Ed is the target of the Tories and many here, the fact the he held up well will trouble them.

Ive never ever rated Ed and have just watched the debate. By far Eds most impressive performance to date. The Tories could be bang in trouble if this carries on. No wonder Dave is petrified of facing him head on.

Except the general consensus in the media is he did?
Strange comment - the left have repeatedly been telling anyone who will listen what a brilliant debater Ed is, and that is why Cameron is running scared.
Yet tonight you are suggesting that he did "far better than anyone thought he could do" when, at best, he sort of did OK.

For me that is exactly the point. He looked like he was about to cry at the end, and Paxman's "Are you alright Ed - are you OK?" comment at the end was more telling than any part of the interview proper. Lightweight.

This thread just shows what a waste of time the whole exercise is on TV and elsewhere. The Labour types say Milliband came out best and the Tory types say the same about Dave. Nobody cares or believes a word they say and will vote how they always vote. Voting in a General Election is like ordering a Chinese meal. You spend a while thinking about it, then order the same as always.

quite an interesting consensus is emerging that the pundits called it for Miliband, but the people thought Cameron done better.

Almost all polls prior to today had Cameron MILES ahead on a personal head to head but Labour marginally ahead overall. The fact that its even close now on that first measure could spell all sort of bad news for the Tories.
The interesting one from the Guardian is that of the Don't Knows. After the performances of both leaders, 57% said they were more likely to vote Labour and 30% to vote Tory. That is quite a stark difference

I'm no fan of either and I think Milliband got a far tougher ride.
For example he was asked, "Are you a north London geek?" which was pretty disrespectful and unworthy of Paxman. Cameron wasn't asked, "Are you just posh Bullingdon boy?"
However, Milliband didn't do well or come across as Prime Ministerial. If he is getting positive ratings I think that is because he wasn't carried out on a stretcher. But only just.
