Okay guys, this is for all of you who are criticising Dick Knight for his prudent management of this club.

Anyone had a look at the deals that preceded Oldhams slight into the abyss they currently find themselves in ....

12/10/01 Wayne Gill - £70k
22/10/01 Chris Armstrong - £200k
30/11/01 Allan Smart - £225k
06/03/02 David Beharall - £150k
12/07/02 Clint Hill - £250k
30/07/02 Chris Killen - £200k

In less than a year they spent over a £1m they clearly could not afford. Within 3-4 months Iain Dowie was laying off staff and the slide into their current mess had begun.

Yes, the ITV Digital plug was pulled, but even AFTER that event they still splashed out £450k last summer.

That is what happens when you spend money you cannot afford.

I for one applaud DK for standing by his principles and running this club correctly.

That failure Dick Knight must go, he's just not trying hard enough. Time to get in someone who is able to push us all the way into administration like those other excellent chairmen. Yeah, let's spend spend spend. I nominate FG Mullers as our new chairman he could do it.

Survival is for pussies.

Yes, but did Oldham RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL £1M plus from the sale of their best asset just prior to their spending spree?... I thought not...

Not a fair comparison... it is reasonable to expect a proportion of the net sale proceeds to be ploughed back into team strengthening... what do we get... nothing for that purpose...

Dick Knight - hang your head in shame... you have abused the loyalty of the fans...

Yes, but if Oldham had retained some of those transfer fee's received instead of spunking it up against the wall on more transfer fees then maybe, just maybe, they wouldn't be about to go out of business.

Give me Dick Knight over the dickwads running (ruining) Oldham any day of the week.

Great!... agreed!... Dick is better than the chairman of Oldham... so what?... there just needs to be a sense of balance... release, say, half of the net Zammo proceeds... if we can't afford to do that, then you have to start asking yourself just how well our club is run financially anyway...

No, if we don't do that, you KNOW just how well the club is being run financially. If we could afford it, don't you think he would actually enjoy signing new players? :shootself

the club as it stands is nothing,we play in a athletics stadium where we have to pay out a fortune to rent it ,still better than gillingham before you pull me up on that one.
until we get a new stadium we're proper f**ked.
let's strenghten the team and not worry about falmer, bad mamagement is what got in this position and good leadership and a bit of patience is what will get us out of it.

Lets do some sums

Income

Ticket sales 6500x 24 x £17 (average price, assuming that some tickets go to concessions)= £2,652,000
TV Money: Div 2 Sky deal £75,000 ( considerably less than the £600,000 we got last season in Div 1)
Sponsorship: Skint £50,000
Match day sponsors £3000 x £24= £72,000
Merchandising (net) say £50,000

Total: £2,900,000

Less VAT (7/47) £432,000

Available to club: £2,468,000

Expenses:

Ecovert: £30,000 x 24= £720,000
Players wages: Say an average salary of £ 90,000 (some will be on more, some less) for a first team squad of 20 = £1,800,000
Managers and coaches wages: Coppell £100,000
others, 5 x £40,000= £200,000
Wages for support staff: Say 15 at £20,000= £300,000
National Insurance on the above at 12.8% £307,000

Park and Ride: 24x £1 x 3500= £84,000

Budgeted loss = £1,043,000 bfore taking into account maintenance, cost of running club shop, heat, light, medical bills, insurance etc etc.

Anyone want to invest in this???

Also paid £450k for Ben Burgess, who left this summer on a free for Hull

Burgess was at Stockport prior to being signed by Hull - not Oldham

Sorry mate you are right, Stcokport's record signing at £450,000 too! Then went on loan to Oldham within six months of joining them. Another great decision by King Carlton Palmer:dunce:

The fact that he did spend 100,000 on BZ is an interesting one.

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, and BZ has just made us a tidy profit, not to mention the goals and 2 promotions.

I think I am less concerned that we have no money to pay on signing new players for a fee than that we appear to have no money for free transfers.

If even a small proportion of BZ's fee plus his saved wages were available we should be able to fund 4 or 5 players including 1 or 2 who should be able to score goals in Div. 2. If we don't do that we will be well and truly f***ed!:shootself

Other incomes include the 160,000 that we get from the promoted teams last year.

I would put merchandising way above 50k.. When you factor in such stuff as the Junior seagulls, AMS, Money from vendors at withdean, programme sales, corporate evens etc, I would place that at about 150,000.

I would also think the average salary is more like 50k than 90k, alright BZ would have been on a lot, and I am sure a few players like Cullip will be on 2000 a week (i.e. about 100,000 pa) but the majority will be on 35-40k.

Don't get me wrong, I know the club does not make a profit, and when you factor things like Falmer into the equation you can see that it is dead money. However, I DO think DK is doing a good balancing act, and the sooner we free up 30,000 per home match to EcoGrab, the Park and Ride cost etc and get more people in the better.

p.s. 2000 x 24 x 17 = 816000 p.a. if we get the new seats, off set that by half back to park and ride atc you are still looking at nearly half a million quid a year, or 5 good players being lost while we have to deal with the planning problems.

Postiga is one of the amazing Portugese youngsters who piss all over everybody and will be an incredible player when he starts playing amongst the big boys. He also came from a club that didn't have to sell players and could quite easily have kept him

it was only a couple of years ago (when foreigners were limited) that it was English players that were expensive in comparison because there were so few of them.
Now it's completely reversed, 1 and a half million for a 22 yr old England star !!???? ROBBERY
