I am not ignorant. There is a difference between Zionism and Judaism. But of course they are deeply intertwined. I am certainly not anti-Semitic and I am not anti- Zionist. But I said I think the internet is not the place for that discussion. And I meant it.

Livingstone's point about criticising the Israeli government not making you anti-semetic is absolutely spot on. You should be able to question them building settlements all over the place, blockading Gaza etc etc without being branded anti-semetic

Unfortunately, that point got rather lost because he was making it to defend a woman who said Jews should be forcibly deported to America which, as far as I can tell, isn't really criticism of Israel's government. Bringing Hitler into it was just farcical - he was mad but what he did wasn't illegal. Yeah, that'll help Labour's image Ken

The trouble is that Livingstone has form on this topic. He was forced to apologise after he likened a Jewish reporter to a concentration camp guard and he made some sneering remarks about Jews voting Tory because they're rich - Streicher would have been proud of that one.

He's right that criticism of Israel shouldn't necessarily be treated as anti-semitic but he's just had too many remarks that cross the boundary

Criticism of the policies of the Israeli government isn't anti-semitic and people who try and deflect criticism of Israel by throwing that accusation about are wrong - but there is no doubt that many of the people who attack Israel don't like Jews and also subscribe to Nazi-esque views about Jewish plots to control finance, media etc, but hide behind the 'anti-zionism' banner.

You have kinda just proved the point by saying that Israel 'stole' the country, which is pretty ignorant and at the very least shows that you don't really know your history....

There is problem across the left, in that they hate the 'West' so much, that they are prepared to support any regime that they see as a victim of the 'imperialist' regimes of US/UK/Israel etc, regardless of the virtue of those 'oppressed' regimes. I think may well meaning activists on the left sign up to anti Israel narratives almost by default without themselves being knowingly anti-semetic, but somehow don't see that the more aggressive anti Israel activists are clearly motivated by anti Jewish sentiment and also subscribe to some pretty far out conspiracy theories about the Roshchilds and Jews controlling Hollywood and international finance etc, which could have come straight out of Mein Kamph

Nearly 70 years have past since Israel was created - most people in the Middle East weren't born then.

Were looking for solutions not history lessons. Whipping up hatred of Jews and Israel by the Palestinian's has resulted in ever deteriorating conditions for them but the western extremists are just to thick too realise it.

Don't always blame Israel for the Palestinian's predicament - blame more, the worlds greatest anti-civilization invention ever - the suicide bomb!

See if you can come up with a plan to guarantee the future safety of the Israelis and then we might, with less hatred, be able inch forward? I wish you luck with that one!

In the meantime, just carry on hating for a few more decades or so.
