actually hang about ... ive got a firewire cble that is currently charging my ipod ... does that go straight into the computer which means i dont need to use the firewire adapter ?

Put all the parts back in the box. Bring it back to the shop. Get a refund. Buy an iRiver. Come back to us so we can help you install it.

ok myob or anyone with an ipod..... ive got the ipod dock connector to firewire cable does that go into the computer ? if so how and where !! and also myob, ive downloaded itunes how do i get my music on widows media player on to itunes ?

That cable.... sigh.... that cable goes into a FIREWIRE port on your computer. As its a Compaq, you almost certainly don't have a Firewire port...
To get the WMA audio into iTunes, find it in Windows Explorer, select it all, right click, Open With -> iTunes. That'll bring it into its library, and from yhere you can convert it.
