and far too many people who are used to being told what to do.

Is that the case though? I'm not sure.. most people laugh off the ridiculous advice etc with a sigh, whilst the small percentage of idiots who do need the advice won't read it/be watching anyway

What are the News programmes going to do, when it actually gets hot. It hasn't even hit 30 here let alone 40.

Until I see an egg being fried on a car or pavement it's not hot.

None of which you remember!!!!

Course not. But we had the commentary on the radio when I was painting council houses in Lancing and everyone was going on about him

What about Eddy Merckx though? Eh?

the OG climate change outcome, something about north atlantic currents disappearing and arctic seas engulfing us.

As accurate a prediction as Sunny Uplands

Not just you, Icy.

Anyone remember 76? Now that was hot. And dry. A young Beefy Botham dazzling in his whites. Plagues of ladybirds. And the old bat I worked with had, only months before, been bleating 'we're going into another Ice Age'.

That was a real hot summer HWT.
Down to the beach at Glyne Gap and ice cream vans that actually sold ice cream, which didn't come with a side order of the latest pill!
BBQ's were a must then, until the locals reported us to the BBQ police.

It's funny how I still remember the news back then showing standpipes and seriously cracked soil where reservoirs once were.

Drinking chilled Pale Ale from a fridge on HMS Ulster.
When the Royal Yacht went past we had to pipe her, and we were dressed in T Shirts and shorts most of the time,so God knows what HRH thought as she went past us, but they never reported us to HMS Excellent

I adored that '76 summer - all of it, although I shouldn't have laughed so hysterically at the sight of my gran's blue rinse, becoming a red, black and blue rinse, when we were set upon by a vast swarm of ladybirds, on Hove lawns.
It took me the best part of an hour to get them all out of her barnet. :D

This is always reminds of hot summers of years gone by:

A hot summer's day and sticky black tarmac
Feeding ducks in the park and wishing you were far away

Do we still get sticky black tarmac in summer? I seem to remember it well.
