Caught in a Riptide
Don’t shoot the messenger, but WeAreBrighton.com have it from several reliable sources that Glenn Murray’s return to Brighton and Hove Albion is a done deal and will be announced on Monday.
Murray has apparently put pen to paper on a season long loan from AFC Bournemouth. The Albion were reluctant to pay what was quoted as being a potential seven figure fee that the Cherries wanted given the fact that the striker has struggled with niggly injuries and isn’t getting any younger.
Attempts to sign him in January were thwarted, mainly because Eddie Howe is a bit of a **** and didn’t want to be seen loaning out a player he paid big money for just four months earlier (Stephen Dobbie anyone?) so this represents a bit of a turnaround.
There were plenty of doubters questioning why we would want Murray to return but his record is good, it is a relative risk free deal if as we believe it is just a loan, he has never relied on pace and is exactly the sort of player who will thrive on Anthony Knockaert, Jiri Skalak, Jamie Murphy and Solly March bombing down the wings.
Of course, the fact he played for Crystal Palace is going to put a lot of people off but remember it was Gus Poyet who didn’t want him, preferring Craig Mackail-Smith at £2.5m rather than the handful of beans payrise Murray wanted to stay.
Best of all about this deal though – it will stop the most annoying transfer speculation of the summer dragging on and on and on.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
a) There's not much evidence anywhere *yet* to suggest a Murray deal is imminent*. But we all know the club are sniffing around. As a Zamora replacement - why not ?
b) If we buy or even loan Murray who says we won't be buying another striker. We're clearly looking for two. Murray arriving at the club doesn't mean the other striker is a "loanee".
c) talking of goals per minute. Hemed's rate, just, was better than that of Ross McCormack's last year. Not sure why we're dismissing a striker who scored 17 goals last season.

*Happy to eat my bobble hat if he's waving a shirt around pre Tenerife trip

Ok. fair enough then. #ffsmurray

Don't be too hasty. Nothing has been announced yet. You said pre Tenerife trip. Monday doesn't count.

If it is a seson long loan, what, if any recall options would Bournemouth have during the season?

Murray would be a great addition, the fact it's a loan will hopefully mean more of the transfer budget can be used for the acquisition of a replacement for Wilson.

Meade and co - well, i await the nod from my closest associates, Barry Skincoat and Sheldon Parchment, for them to say that i can really publicly speak for them - are quite excited by the likeliness of this loan. I hope some wiliness was used in the construction of the deal and we kept away from a vast loan fee. Will be good to see him back, and pleased to be with us. I can see him scuffing and heading in plenty.

Recall would only be possible in the January window.

The name gives it away
I'm happy if it's a loan, mainly because I had this horrible thought that Palace might have a sell on clause! The thought of giving them some of cash sent shivers down my spine.😣
