So please explain precisely how unfair is good for football.

Sent from a device that has too much class to advertise crapatalk.

The play offs mean a greater number of teams have something to play for (and fans something to hope for) right up until the closing stages on the season.

I think that's good for the season and the game.

But it is not fairness. And fairness must ultimately be central to any credible sport. Why not just have play offs for all 24 teams, with the top 8 getting a bye into the last sixteen? Wow, so much excitement - and think of all the extra revenue.

Sent deploring the inability of some people to switch the crapatalk advert off.

I'm a play-off killjoy too. You shouldn't get PROMOTION, a day at WEMBLEY AND a fricking TROPHY for finishing SIXTH.

Having said that I do also appreciate that it gives more teams more to play for towards the latter end of the season. I like the idea that the 6th team plays 5th away, who then play 4th away who should then play 3rd away. So the 3rd team only has to win one home game and 6th would have to win three away. It would also really make each position important and not just "anywhere in the top 6'll do" as it is now.

So nobody gets a trophy or a day at Wembley and they get their promotion with no more fuss than the team finishing 2nd. Maybe we can restore a little of the prestige of Wembley being only for the cup finals.

We need to all stand up and do something to get rid off the play off system it is not a fair system and was probably invented just to sell more tickets. The top 3 should go up to the premier league it is that simple !

Ipswich 1991
Forest 2014

Can't be arsed to look at when we won promotion with McGhee and when we lost to Palace.

True if we there had been no play offs this year then yes we would have gone up automatically, but then it's horse for courses.

At the end of the day, we conceded too many late goals when we shouldn't have and that's why we didn't go up automatically.

I think Aldershot were even further behind Wolves in the old div 4

not being pedantic, just a nice piece of football trivia

Remember that.
I think it was a huge difference ( in the region of 20 points ) and of course, Aldershot won. Caused a storm of protest at the time.

I like the play offs. The fact that, in most seasons, teams all the way down to 9-10th have something to play for up until mid-late April is one of the things that makes the Championship such a great division. Remember 12/13 when, with 2 games to play, Leeds were the only team in the league that were mathematically safe and couldn't reach the play offs.

The rules are the same for everyone at the beginning of August; I don't see how that can be seen as unfair.

We aren't ALL moaning.

For the record, I've never liked playoffs, and yes, I said the same in 2004, when we got promoted via them.
It's a lottery and the best team doesn't necessarily win. We weren't better than Swindon or Bristol.

The play-offs are great. I don't think the team that finished third deserves to go up. Instead they get the chance to prove they are worthy of promotion by beating the teams below them, and they have a big advantage playing the team that finished 3 positions below them first, and with the second leg at home. If you're the third placed team and you can't do that, then I don't see why you deserve to get promoted.

Sorry, but this thread suggested there was a bit of moaning. Granted, we aren't all moaning.

Our record against the other play-off teams is drawn 5, won 1. Perhaps we still have a point to prove?

The playoffs are largely a good thing IMO, but I do think there should be some advantage within the playoffs to the teams finishing higher in the league.

were you complaining when we sneaked into 6th place two years ago? No point moaning about it we all know the rules at the start of the season.

Play-offs are a necessary evil, and we have benefitted from them ourselves anyway. But it's high time there was an advantage the further up you go. Something like this:

Friday:
A) One off game: 3rd v 4th, winner to Wembley. loser to semi

Saturday:
B) One off game: 5th v 6th: winner to semi, loser knocked out

Wednesday:
C) One off game: Loser of A) v winner of B)

D) Wembley final.

I don't really see what's so controversial or difficult about that. ???

One off game: Loser of A) v winner of B) on Wednesday. Winner then has to play Wembley final? One game in the morning, then quick helicopter ride to Wembley for 3:00pm kick off, yep, should work fine.........................................

Despite what's happened this season I still wouldn't scrap the Play Offs but I would tweak it a bit:

The 3rd place team goes straight into the Play Off Final; 6th place plays away at the 5th placed team and the winner of that game plays away at the team that came 4th for the other final place..?

If the 6th placed team wins the final they've still only played 3 games like they would have to in the current format.

I still think this is the best suggestion to the play-offs.It's perfect and should be put forward to the F.A
