If there's one thing I learned working in a fish and chip shop on Brighton seafront in the 70s was "stick to the chip butties".

The most curious thing..
Has anyone else noticed that driving south down the M6 and M40 feels like its going downhill, whereas going north feels definitely uphill?

The North starts at a line marked by the Kennet and Avon Canal. Coupled with the River Thames it is a defensive line which goes all the way across the Country. This was the fall back line created during WW 2 to defend the North in case members of the EU managed to get a foothold on the south's beaches.

It's the Trent I reckon. In the 1970s, when we used to go on northern holidays you couldn't get safety matches once you crossed the River Trent. No northerner would be seen to be soft by using something termed 'safety'.....
