I’ve never understood any of the generational names. Don’t even know what I am.

Born in ‘65 makes me a what?
  • The Greatest Generation – born 1901-1924. ...
  • The Silent Generation – born 1925-1945. ...
  • The Baby Boomer Generation – born 1946-1964. ...
  • Generation X – born 1965-1979. ...
  • Millennials – born 1980-1994. ...
  • Generation Z – born 1995-2012. ...
  • Gen Alpha – born 2013 – 2025.
You missed out by a year of being in the coolest and most abused generation by the Millennials onwards

Seriously? What gives?
Yes, seriously. I looked it up and it was released in the autumn of 1989, when I was 33, older boomers would have been in their 40s. Given that the the peak years for people to be interested in pop music will be between 14 to 25 (and, of course, there'll be some younger and some older), I doubt whether many other boomers would know the song - let alone making it an 'anthem'.

I doubt whether there are more than a couple of dozen pop songs since 1986 that I'd recognise, so I don't get the surprise.

Wasn't Generation X Billy Idol's original band?

I was told I was near the end of the Baby Boom ie post-war babies born within four or five years of the end of the war. Men returning home to their wives or returning home to get married. The birth rate shot up, unsurprisingly.

Somehow the 50s and 60s children are now Boomers (which I don't understand)

I saw the same definitions but can't work out why the generations are of differing lengths. Is there a rationale?

I'll let you into a little secret - neither have I.
Just blag it and nobody will notice.
That's what all Millenial X-Gen Boomers would say.

Last week Portillo on a train trip said that he was a boomer, born within a decade of the war. But then he is a tory so you can’t believe anything he says.

1953 so could qualify at a stretch. His father would probably have served in the war.

I like the idea but it annoys me the events aren’t in chronological order like in the original
