Are you sure you mean 'playing the race card', and not 'being racist'?

What's the difference? Is being racist just what some people are? While playing the Race Card just doing it to wind somebody up even though you are not racist?

Genuine question.

Can I just ask what is "transitional". Is this the same myth that said that we cant go straight up after promotion from div 1 and we had to "consolidate". Interesting that neither palace or Bournemouth suffered from the same afflictions as "consolidation" and "transition".

Yep. Well done Palace and Bournemouth. So the lessons are... The Palace model would presumably be spend a lot less and have a seasoned English Champ/Prem as your manager. Bournemouth - have a young inexperienced but talented manager and back him with spending a lot on wages.
Now if only Albion had [done which one precisely ?] then promotion is guaranteed - yep ?. (unless you're Derby, Wolves, Wigan, Ipswich, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Sheffield Weds, Reading, Boro etc who are also incapable of spotting what the solution is either )

The big flaw in your examples of those who you suggest are also failing is that they have all actually made the promised land of the Premier League at some stage. I think you also do Eddie Howe a disservice, I believe he has more experience than any of our last 5 managers had whilst here.

If our wage bill last year was the biggest ever, we also threw a lot of money at trying to get out of this league but failed due to the recruitment team being rubbish, the players being rubbish and the manager being rubbish. Nobody's fault though.

Playing the race card describes when someone claims racial discrimination when it's likely, or at least possible, that any discrimination may be because of that person's flawed personality or lack of talent.

For example, Paul Ince claiming that he was being prevented from getting a top management job because he was black, and not accepting that it could have been because he wasn't a very good manager.

I know. And most of em didn't spend much time there either. I'm just illustrating that 20 teams don't make it every single year and most of em have been struggling to get out of this league for 5 years or more. So given that everyone else is in the same boat then most answers to last season's misery are simply trite and ludicrous including my glib and tongue in cheek response the other day.
"Buy better players" .

Its difficult. And most clubs fail. Every season. So i'd argue probably more complex than the 4 or 5 simple solutions that often get mentioned on here by others (Have AMBITION, spend more even though we spend more than 16 other clubs, find a 20 goal a year striker (Blackburn have 2 of em !! but that hasn't done it) , not have a DULLARD as a manager, get all your transfer business done in May or June, don't sell any player EVER despite 23 clubs in the Champ making a profit on player sales last season ) etc.
And i know you're joking but there's a prevailing view on here that all our players, recruitment team, board really are just rubbish. The whole lot of em. Especially poor old Chris O Grady.

PS: I like Eddie Howe a lot . Mostly because his favourite band is A-Ha and he's seen them more than 10 times. .

My understanding is the same as nwgull:

That's why I didn't understand El Pres when he said other players would wind him up by playing the race card.

Whilst El Pres's understanding of finance and porno vids may be outstanding, his use of the vernacular was incorrect in this instance.

Thanks - makes sense.

Billy Sharp being linked with Sheffield United....
Adkins had him at Southampton and he is a United fan.

He's twice failed there in the past, though they may well have been Championship level back then (?). Perhaps he'll make it third time lucky. League One is very much a level he tends to succeed at.
