I really need to have a play with this. Is it clever than humans - not even close. But it is very clever. I have watched a couple of Youtube videos where it is asked to write code - one for the 40 year old Commodore 64 basic. And it sort of does. I mean it does but it nearly always needs debugging. I believe Microsoft are looking at putting it into Bing so you can chat with the search engine.
My grandson said invest in Microsoft now, is he right then?

So far, the only examples I can see of its application are nothing more phrase dredging from the internet to create a pretty shoddy approximation of something it would take a human longer to do. And do it right.

I remember the nerds getting their nuts all twisted in excitement when William Gibson was writing about such things and again when The Matrix came out.

I’m sure in a few years when it’s developed properly it will be a helpful assistant for busy people or a useful app for students and teachers.

Nobody is going to get sucked into Tron or live their life plugged into a matrix. Unless they choose to of course. The meta-verse doesn’t exist and nobody is going to meet the lawnmower man anytime soon.

In my opinion, humans will return to a simpler life as we progress. We may not have a choice.

On the basis of them adding something to their very much minority search engine? Probably not. But then I have no idea.

My grandson says that it's more intelligent than humans is it?
What does this mean to mankind? I worry about the future employment of youngsters.
Who is the expert that can tell us exactly where this is going?
Thanks for your help.
Intelligence as a concept is a many faceted thing, with multiple definitions and theories.

Certainly, there is a n argument that the latest AI's like ChatGPT have met the conditions of the Turing test: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test

GPT also has much better memory recall than humans
It certainly writes better than me and has better grammar the me!
However, It's not yet more creative than humans

But it's advancing rapidly.

We are a team of 30 odd immersive technologists and are already using chatGPT and other AI engines to complete lots of mundane repetitive tasks, thus freeing us up to add more value, in areas like creativity.

A colleague gaver a good analogy yesterday, a portrait painting. AI can now do the background, the body, the lighting and all sorts of stuff. But we are still needed to paint the head and the hands :)

In theory, no. Teaching is about so much more than just regurgitating facts.

Whether the British government realises that is another thing entirely.
Maybe teaching has come on some, but teachers appeared to just repeat and rinse years ago.Grandson says he has different teachers all the time, I suppose one thing teachers have over this is personality, whether that it's good or bad!

I am being glib.
I get it. But with results like that, we have some way to go before we start worrying.
I have no doubt a future version of this will perform some jobs and make human workers obsolete. However, we don’t need to worry about a judgment day scenario just yet.

Not that that’s what you were implying .
Why would any AI technology be worrying? Now or in the future

Im all for the Iain M. Banks version of a socialist utopia. Hydrogen + Automation + AI and we can all live lives of leisure for all eternity.

What could possibly go wrong!

Teaching has advanced hugely in the last three decades. It’s definitely no longer learning by rote or regurgitating the same dusty old text as in previous generations.

But as I say, whether this will be recognised is in doubt .

Either way, chatbots will be little more than a way to assist humans or free them up to perform more interesting tasks.

Arnie isn’t going to materialise, naked, by the bins round the back of Churchill Square and demand to know where Sarah Connor, anytime soon.

I like that! Will it learn to become creative over time? As that would surely change everything.

The biggest worry with AI, and its common to most emerging tech, is that there is no legislative framework for it, so currently there are a lot of ethical and moral issues that are unresolved.

Right now though, its saving me loads of time, making me more productive and better prepared.

Is having 'personality' a good thing when teaching? it certainly can be, but it also means teachers have favourites, make judgements, deliver learning inconsistently and do all sorts of other perfectly understandable human things.

Id argue that adaptability might be more valuable, understanding each learner as an individual and how to best motivate them. Also something that still requires humans for the time being :)

If I was in academia though. my brain would be capsising. It's a monumental shift in terms of being able to evaluate work. If I was 16, 18 or 22 right now, I would be trying to get all my essays written for me!

Can it solve the climate crisis, pay nurses what they deserve, or stop hungry families having to go to food banks?
Let's just say, it's at least as clever as the Tories in all those matters.

So, no.

Bing, you say? I only ever used it twice. The second time was to search for google (now in my toolbar)

What is it? How does it work?
LOL. Some years ago, I was enthralled by a young chimp at Barcelona zoo, who grabbed a rag off another chimp and ran off. He then climbed up on some 'rocks' and proceeded to dangle it in front of the other chimp, just out of reach. When the other chimp tried to climb up, the young chimp got hold of the ropes and held those just out of reach as well. We were in fits of laughter. Hours of entertainment.

ChatGPT reminds me of that rag. The rag was no longer a rag. It had become a coveted item of great value.

In half a day, people on here have already gone beyond using ChatGPT as a tool, but are using it as entertainment. Humankind is waaay beyond AI.

Dear Mr. Bloom,

I am writing to express my enthusiasm for the idea of building a monorail at the American Express Community Stadium. I believe that this would be a great addition to the stadium, and would bring many benefits to both the stadium and the community as a whole.

One of the main benefits of a monorail is that it would greatly improve the accessibility of the stadium. Many fans, especially those with mobility issues, would be able to reach the stadium more easily and comfortably with the monorail. This would also help to reduce traffic congestion around the stadium, making it more convenient for everyone.

In addition, a monorail would be a great way to showcase the stadium and the city of Brighton to visitors. The monorail would provide a unique and exciting way for people to experience the stadium and the surrounding area, which would help to attract more tourists and boost the local economy.

Another benefit of a monorail is that it would be an environmentally friendly way to transport people to and from the stadium. This would align with the Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club's commitment to sustainability and would also be a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the stadium.

In conclusion, I believe that building a monorail at the American Express Community Stadium would be a great investment for the club and the community. It would bring many benefits and would help to make the stadium even more accessible, attractive, and environmentally friendly. I hope that you will seriously consider this proposal and I would be happy to provide any additional information or assistance that you may need.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
