I agree, although in some locations (like parts of Thailand) there are a lot of Russian tourists now and they put the British to shame when it comes to being jerks. Apart from being loud, they're aggressive, rude, always act "macho" and have this extreme arrogance and misplaced pride in their country.

This is it. The Brits are generally okay - alot of twats around but you could say that about any nation to be honest. The Russians are really bad. Really really bad. And ive never met a decent american..... but that may be me!

My impression is that over there more and more people now think first of the former image. Obviously this is just France, and they have their own issues anyway, but even their 'yobs' behave a bit better abroad. When they go abroad (which is a lot less than us).

I think you are right and this impression is perpetuated by the news. But what having Sky News here also does is highlights all the negative aspects of living in Britain, but then the news is always bad, no matter what country it is from.

The best example of this I have is when a local teacher went to teach in a UK school for a year. When they returned, they were asked by one of their pupils whether they had to stand inside a cage at the UK school, so that they would not get attacked in their class!!

There are four typesof brits in Turkey ( according to the Turks... and I agree, except for 1, to a degree)

1) brit girls who want to get pisssed, shagged or hitched up to a much younger boy.
2) Brits who are easy to con, spend most of teir time out of their heads and dont know the meaning of shade, suncream or mornings
3) retired rich brits (many who are closet fascists... my opinion) who come out here, buy a house and then expect every where to be like England and think like the english.
4) Nice Brits who come out here to work, live or just for hols with the families who still believe in the family.

As a taste for group 3 you might like to look at the following: Some days the comments are unbelieveable! TBH there are good smattering of group 4s on this site too.

In 1968 I toured round Holland for 16 days on a school trip. All the people we met, especially the older ones, loved us Brits unconditionally because of the war; they thought we were a brave, kind, and decent nation.

When I was last there in 1998 although they liked me and other Brits as individuals they thought we as a nation were a load of drunken, boorish football hooligans still obsessed with the war.

I love Stereotypes!

Here's some of mine from my time in Japan.

The British. We're alright. Basically friendly and polite and don't act like complete tossbags too often.

The Americans. Contrary to the classic stereotype they're a pretty good bunch. Quite clever too. There's a decent smattering of the obnoxious, loud ignorant ones but that's probably because there's a lot of americans over here to start with. They're outweighed by the good lot though.

Canadians. All the ones I've met have been slightly strange but a decent lot with it.

Aussies. They're pretty much all fair dinkum bruce's and sheila's if you ask me. On the whole friendly and a good laugh and not all completely sports obsessed.

The French. Interesting, are the french. Individually they're a likeable, funny lot. But get more than on of them in the same room and it's as if they're having a competition to see who can fulfill as many negative french stereotypes as they can in as short a space of time as they can.

The Germans. Have a good, dry sense of humour. Pretty easy to get on with.

The dutch. Great English and a little bit saucy.

The Italians. Brilliant! Passionate, loud lunatics!

Scandinavians. Exceptional English. Lots seem to be employed as English teachers and generally do a better job of it than the natives.

Koreans. Friendly and love cooking you korean food. Although thend to only hang out with other koreans if they have a choice.

The Chinese. Boooo! My least liked nation. Not overly friendly, uncomunicative, try to avoid talking to you, and hang out exclusively with other chinese. Usually in big, noisy, messy groups that take over whatever space they're in. They're also overly nationalistic. That's only the mainlanders though. The Taiwanese and Hong Kong(ers?) are fine, friendly people.

Iranians. Dodgy fuckers.

Turks. Friendly in their shops but strutting and aggressive when out(especially when in a pack).

These are all general observations taken from my time/experiences in Japan only. They're taken from people I've spent considerable time with(e.g housemates, work
colleagues) apart from the Iranians and Turks. That's from general experiences in Tokyo.

The problem is we as a nation love to travel/holiday, i'd argue more than any other nation in the world... and you can also go abroad very cheaply thesedays. That coupled with our drinking culture = thousands of completely uncultured groups of lads etc trotting off to various hotspots around Europe/the World, not giving a shit about the locals and highly pissing them off in the mean time.
I'd argue that every country has it's fair share of louts who act in the same way (from my experience the Americans, Australians, Italians, Isrealies and Russians for starters are just as bad if not worse abroad. There's just more of us.

My mate works with foreign language students in Manchester and says EXACTLY the same thing about the Chinese- very difficult to get on with and overall pretty dull.

I only know one so it would be a bit difficult to make too many generalisations from that small a sample! He's a nice guy, at first glance a little serious and stern but as soon as you start talking to him he's really friendly and quite funny. So a:thumbsup: from me.

They kept themselves to themselves as they struggled to speak any english

They come across to me like that. They are wary sort of people as if they think your going to pickpocket them.Once the conversation gets going they come out of there shell.

Russians? All depends.. My Girl is Uzbek, one of the former Russian Republics... after 6 months dealing with Ukrainian chavs at the bar, she considers them primitive peasants, but ive explained to her theres chavs in every country ive lived in, and thats 6..
A lot of Russians and people from the former republics, love fighting, I mean really love...They all seem totally fearless.
We had fight outsidet bar a few weeks ago, where somebody was stabbed, and hes still in Hospital, and the fight involved one group of Ukrainians, 2 Ukrainian mafia people, Tajiks, Kazakhs, and Uzbeks, I took one look outside the door and came straight back in..looked terrifying.

The woman, I have to say, stand up quite well compared to other nationalities...theres dogs of course, but seems a higher percentage of beautiful girls..and they dress up......general perception by them of British woman is...well..largish...to be polite. In fact Czech girl was saying to me was in Marks and Spencers near my workplace today, and was moaning about the clothes sizes...everything seemed large to her..
A lot of the Russian women ive dated in the last couple of years here seem to be very educated with more than one degree, but
because they are considered poorly by Czechs after a 40 occupation, they end up in jobs like waitressing, casinos, cleaning.. really low end jobs. They love English people which is a big plus... the men because they consider Britain the people that brought football hooliganism to the world, and the woman are just happy to be treated half decently, as they dont get treated that well by Russian men...and show a lot of gratitude...!
