yeah, thats a load of bollocks. they dont become second class citizens, they retain all the existing rights with one small consession that they have to apply/register to show they were here before the deadline. oh no they lose the protection of the european courts... like our courts are something terrible? very wealthy people come here just to access our judicial system, so i dont think serious thinking people will worry too much. fear of having rights revoked after brexit is to ignore hundreds of years of precedence, though i can understand the fear of state from so many europeans from their own nations histories, which their countrymen often came here to escape pre-EU.

Shouldn't forget 1.2m of our own that have made of life for themselves in the EU. I have friends in France and Brexit has descended lives into huge uncertainty after buying a farm there only 2 years ago

Well we all suffer if we make bad decisions. Bearing in mind the angst over the EU at the time well, perhaps they should have rented it first and then bought after the fall out. Terrible for all though isn't it?

I don't think it's the courts which are the issue. It's more the government. May has also shown zero ability to stick to her words and has shown she is willing to use human lives as bargaining chips to further her aims. I wouldn't trust her grubby little government more than I could throw it. EU citizens should therefore have their rights enshrined outside of the U.K..

the courts are implicit in discussing rights and equality in law. i trust our courts to uphold rights and law, holding the government to account (see HMG v Miller) and we do not have a history of repealing rights.

this bargaining chip rhetoric isnt helpful, EU insisted nothing could be pre-agreed, then came in with a demand that EU citizens be protected by EU courts in the UK. like they'd try that on any other country, it doesnt even stand up in basic international law, attempting to undermine our sovereignty. they knew it wouldnt, couldnt be accepted but has done its job of making us look unreasonable to those that want that impression. the offer from us is basically the same as present (right to permanent residence after 5 years), with a necessary step of registering for residency (we have no other mechanism unlike other countries, we're free to come and go and move at will) and a cock up on the bureaucracy front. this is presented as deplorable, an unfair arrangement, apparently because other european countries rules on citizenship or the children learning english.

What reports are these? The Tories are hoping they can avoid an election and can hang on till 2022.

Well the Conservative Party is currently advertising for campaign managers, something it doesn't usually do until a few months, or at most a couple of years, before an election. If it thinks it can win (perhaps profiting from the 'new manager syndrome') then it will go for it sooner rather than later.

Sign they are looking to call an early election or that they are no longer in control of events? DUP withdraw their support or a few Tory MP's decide to rebel and they're in trouble so they have to be prepared for an election. After thinking they would win with a 20% poll lead I doubt they would risk another go even if they did get a minor uplift from a new leader (they are currently behind in the polls).

I think they are looking to stabilse and hang on in there for as long as possible.
