We rode our luck but a good tactical switch by CH with Crofts contributing well and the switch in formation def gave us chances.

Always wonder what supporters see that managers don't because VLP had beating of man and JM didn't yet we constantly played it to JM every time.

Just spoken to brother who was there and his opinions is that we were very poor and he predicts a difficult 2nd half to the season as we are not a patch on the side of 4 weeks ago but cant put his finger on what it is we need. Apparently Stockdale saved us many times.

Just back from the game - we were poor first half with Calde very exposed. The 4-4-2 wasn't working because we had no real wide threat and Wilson wasn't in the game, so they were always in place and could boss the game. We switched to 4-3-3 at half time and controlled the game second half, but we didn't mange to take the shot on the end of anything! We were the kept in the game by Stockdale. Draw a reasonable result in the day. But their diving was a disgrace (along with fans who shouted handball all the time).

Chris Hughton needs to pick the right boots for some of them for starters.

So we've got 44 points halfway through the season and on course for 88 points at the end.

The promoted sides over the Championship seasons and their respective points totals:

2014-2015 Bournemouth 90, Watford 89
2013-2014 Leicester 102, Burnley 93
2012-2013 Cardiff 87, Hull 79
2011-2012 Reading 89, Southampton 88
2010-2011 QPR 88, Norwich 84
2009-2010 Newcastle 102, West Brom 91
2008-2009 Wolves 90, Birmingham 83
2007-2008 West Brom 81, Stoke 79
2006-2007 Sunderland 88, Birmingham 86
2005-2006 Reading 106, Sheffield United 90
2004-2005 Sunderland 94, Wigan 87

88 points would've been enough for promotion in 6 of the 11 seasons.

This one comes up regularly. What is important is what the third team got as that is the points total you have to beat.

Is there any guarantee we will score 44 points in the 2nd half of the season I wouldnt think so judging by our recent performances where we are not the same team as some weeks ago. I think that we could find our form again and go up automatically but we could just as easy not and miss out altogether.

We have seven first-team match day squad players currently injured. Hardly surprising it's taking its toll. I think a very decent point today in a match we could have easily lost. Two important home games coming up which must be won to keep an automatic promotion challenge on track but hopefully much needed re-enforcements not far away now. It's still on.

How many are first choice only 1 guaranteed Bong. LR is virtually for away games but the rest are just squad bench players.

This was in reply to post 416 which I forgot to quote

Ahh, Christmas celebrations must have really taken it out of the poor soul. Being ill on Boxing day can only be self inflicted.

Are you blaming the club as they have been together since yesterday morning

Third + 1 do you?
If you get more points than the team that would be in third but less than the team that would be second you will be third.

It all comes down to how you phrase it, really.

The second place team in any given season can have more points than they actually needed that year, i.e. if the third place team has 85, the second place team only needed 86 to go up, but they happened to win 89. From a hypothetical point of view, 88 points would have been enough to go up, if that is what the second place team had got (instead of 89). So third place +1 is right.

If you're transposing us into that league, then we would have to get more than the team in second place to knock them down the table and put us in second place. So second place +1 is right.

They have changed the rules now and allow substitutes, so the match squad is 17 players, and of the current injuries, they would probably all be in the 17

Ys but the team in 2nd that season didn't NEED to get say, 89 points (Watford last season). All Watford needed was the same as 3rd with a better gd.
