When I read stuff like this I just dispair. f*** up the economy, dont provide any guidance to help businesses and then go after them. What is the purpose of this government and the HO?

Once again yet another post goes down as anti government. Sure somebody split on them and immigration officials had no option but to raid. Am sure they were surprised to find so many staff out of order and putting yourself in there shoes they would often be told a mistake was made.
Brighton Council would know this is genuine outstanding business that gives a lot to the town and they are dealing with tragic circumstances. Hopefully Council can put over to Immigration that this case involves exceptional circumstances.

checking regulations and law being followed? it's been fairly long term descent and widespread across government. come up with some regulations to justify existance and headcount, defer enforcement to business with minimal assistance, employ staff to check business is enforcing. and repeat. its almost as if they want to find failure.

The article said another restaurant was checked but every worker had the correct paperwork, so it doesn’t indicate anyone splitting on them.
Immigration check premises quite frequently, the Palace Pier, for example has been found to have illegal workers.

I once met one of the former owners of the Palace Pier at a function, we got on to the subject of staff, he made no bones about predominately employing foreign staff ( long before Brexit was in the OED) in the bars and on the rides for a simple reason, local staff ie Brightonians, often gave away free rides and drinks to family and friends, “Vincenzo from Spain” (his example) hardly knows anyone locally so won’t!

Agree.

Shameful of the HO to still push for them losing their license though but fair play to Sussex Police for withdrawing their support of these scumbags in this matter.
This is a bit like when the right wing press go off on one and accuse the judiciary of being a bunch of lefties. Judges are there to uphold the law and The Home Office is there to follow policy laid down by the Home Secretary. Great that common sense prevailed, but nothing shameful in people doing their job.

The council, Sussex Police and the Home Office all did their job. As you have said, common sense prevailed, but only for 2 out of those 3. Surely common sense is better than jobsworths?
