Took advantage of some rare blue skies to wander up to Withdean yesterday. Hard to believe its only a year ago that we were playing football there. A generation from now, the thought that the Albion used to play league football at Withdean at all will seem as outlandish as the thought of Withdean Zoo.

I had a walk round the track with my boy last week and had a sit on the bench. Weird how hard it is to imagine all those great moments we had there.

What's happened to the pitch in that photo? Looks like sand.

There was definitely no grass on the pitch. Maybe they rolled it up and packed it off to the Open like they used to do with the South Stand .

Weird. It was there last week. Looked in decent nick too.

Maybe it's going to be used as carpet in the Albion museum at the Amex.

Thanks for posting the pics - as said it seems a lifetime away now

What did happen to the South stand - did it ever get used elsewhere??

It really was a shithole of a stadium wasn't it...but so many memories

In terms of trophies, it was a very successful 'stadium'. Now we've got the Amex, I can look back quite fondly at Withdean even the wet, wild and windy times when everything got soaked through.

Shit hole of a stadium doesn't seem apt, really.

Compared to many stadia, the settings were delightful. How many stadia have leaves falling on top on them from a nature reserve, busy skies (birds and not pollution), wasps and bees aplenty.

Inappropriate for a professional team, but shit hole, it was not.

Split in half and used by Eastbourne Town and another team to the east of Brighton I think- Peacehaven?

Great for basking in the sun, the amount of times I would come back home pink. The soakings were something else though.

Will always look back on the place with great memories.

I should upload a whole bunch I took at the beginning of the season-hard to believe a League Football Club survived for 12 years there. Great testament to Albion fans and the people running the club. I truly believe that no other club's fans would have persevered in the way we all did.
