I've recently hoovered up a load of cheap second hand cds and quite a few seem to come from Aus: a couple of Powderfinger albums, The Cruel Sea, The Bluehouse, TISM, The Lucksmiths and an Indie 2000 double cd with a mix of Australian and international bands. I'm loving the Lucksmiths. They have a very DIY/C86 feel, reminding me in particular of Rodney Allen's 'Happy Sad', one of my favourite albums from that period.

Australia pretty much invented the tribute act, on account of few wanting to go there to do a tour.

Jimmy Barnes is, or at least was, the biggest name in Australian music, in Australia. Virtually unknown in the UK.

I remember going to an Oz pub in Earls Court in the early 90's, they were mad for "Barnzee", who the hell is this guy?

Empire of the Sun are probably best known for Walking on a Dream and We are the people, but always thought this should have got more attention.

If people don't mind a bit of old school punk this band are great. Amy the lead singer is totally manic.

They're fantastic live!

This is the loneliest song ever written.
