This is where you'll more likely find the indie Aussie bands other than in the charts.

https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/featured-music/most-played/

I've just bought a used 4 CD collection from Triple J called 40 Years of Music online for a mere quid. Features some decent alternative tunes, plus quite a few Aussie songs, some of which have been mentioned on this thread. Some of which I've never heard of. From the first CD, so far I've been very impressed by Hunters & Collectors 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' and Romeo Void's 'Never Say Never'.

Mid mid mid Sussex
This is something I've only recently found (it's from 1997) and probably qualifies as it was a minor hit in Australia but wasn't here:

Throw Your Arms was a staple song in the pubs to get all the drunks singing and you guessed it throwing their arms around each other.

They always had a reputation for being a great live pub band.

Plenty of music in their back catalogues.

Not a fan myself and find his voice irritating.

I can see how some would, but I like his voice. After listening to 'From St Kilda to King's Cross' a few times on the Triple J compilation, I've bought a Greatest Hits and have it on this morning. It's got some decent songs on it and I'm a bit surprised that he never seemed to have a hit over here. He can keep his dreary paean to Don Bradman though. He was an exceptional cricketer, but he was only a bloody cricketer, not Martin Luther King.

Far more interesting hearing what's been popular in Aus from Tyrone Biggums than seeing the BBC playing Gina G and John Farnham. I was waiting for the bleeding Bee Gees to show up on their programme, but got three different Kylie contributions instead. Nick Cave only got shown because he made a record with her rather than, just a for instance, because he wrote one of the finest love songs ever:

Well the Bee Gees breakthrough was in Australia

No bad for 16 year olds in fairness

I haven’t seen this on this thread I don’t think?

Nothing against the Bee Gees. Great songwriters. I was just despairing at the totally mainstream choices made by the programme makers. To be fair they've done me a favour, as my complaint about it in this thread has led me to some really good stuff that I previously didn't know. As with the Cover Versions thread, the BBC will do the obvious, but for a deep dive, you need the good folk of NSC.
