Be quiet, boy.

Perry, the story went like this - it was the old second division (the one we're in - in the season we won it 2001/2). Brighton were 2-0 up, Paul Rogers came on as sub and proceeded to get booked with a beaut of a flying challenge about two minutes after he came on.

Chesterfield pulled one back, and Rogers did it again, this time right in front of the bench. Even though the bloke wasn't hurt, you could clearly hear the Chesterfield bench shouting 'stay down, stay down'. So seven minutes after he came on, Rogers - the club captain - is sent off. I did this as a question at a Forty Notes Quiz Night once, knowing full well Paul was going to be there...

Anyway, Chesterfield equalised, and the game finished 2-2. Bad blood was the gentle way of putting it. There had been needle throughout the game - especially between the benches.

Now comes the uncertain bit. What we do know is that there was a 'f***ing great big ruck' (Paul Rogers) in the dressing rooms after the game. Depending on whose version of events you believe, some of Brighton's bigger lads (Kuipers, Cullip, Oatway, Rogers, Booker, Taylor himself) all squared up with the Chesterfield lads. According to legend (though not necessarily true) one of the Chesterfield players popped his head round the door, indulged in a spot of verbal and got it punched straight back into the dressing room. Nicky Law got thumped, allegedly, and it all kicked off.

There was a premiership ref doing the game, and I think it was Andy d'Urso. He witnessed it all, and decided not to report it.
