Haha. That reminded me of the “bat walk” we went on with the kids once. The local who had been brought in to make sure we didn’t get lost turned out to be the crab fisherman we’d already befriended. After about an hour, I asked him if he’d ever seen a bat on the island (he was 70 and lived there all his life). He said no, so we left the group and headed to the Turks Head!

In my yoof I could be seen roaming around proudly wearing my Bishop & Wolf sweatshirt.

Going to need some clarification from the newbies, but back in the day one of the highlights from sandy beaches was looking for all the pottery washed up.

With so many ships sunk in the shallow waters there seemed to be an endless supply of fragments, with every high tide.

My favoured beach was one next to the old lifeboat launch.
I couldn't find footage of that on YouTube - so here's the Scillonian instead:-

I once stopped for a day and night, when sailing a yacht back from Cork in Ireland to Southampton.

We dropped anchor and went into the main town for a few beers and food.

A couple of years later, a friend of mine mentioned that she once thought she’d seen me while she was on holiday in the Isles of Scilly, but had decided there was no chance I’d be there and it must have been a close lookalike!

Was chatting about childhood holidays at work today.
Which naturally lead me to rough crossings on The Scillonian.
Which finally got me to this mundane home video about island hopping, on the clear sea to sandy beaches

Reminded of this thread.

Anyone still interested?

For no other reason than this is such a striking photograph.
