The best thing about this is that even our 2nd XI would hold its own in this division:

Stockdale - Mäenpäa

Bruno - Rosenior
Goldson - AN Other
Dunk - Hünemeier
Bong - AN Other

Kayal - Ince
Stephens - Sidwell

Knockaert - March
Pritchard - Baldock
Skalak - Murphy

Hemed - Murray

And that doesn't include Kaz or Towell! As we've found out in recent years, the key in this league is strength in depth. Yes we still need another 1 or 2 at the back, but if you can rotate to account for injuries and suspensions, and not be noticeably weaker, that's what gives you the chance - the no.2 keeps no.1 on his toes.

That leaves us with a squad much smaller than previous years.

Typically we start with a squad of 26, maybe increasing it in January.

If Pritchard replaces 3 players, we'll be starting with a squad of 24 ( assuming we also bring in another central defender ).

With no emergency loans, starting with such a small squad is certainly courageous.

Or foolhardy?

Isn't £4 mil + and huge risk for a player whose had one decent season...I remember Pierre Van Hoojidonk was great for one season

Welcome to what decent potential costs in the 2nd tier these days. Scary.

He did have decent years with Swindon and Brentford back to back but that was 3 and 2 years ago respectively,

IMO he will replace Holla,Elvis and Wilson.

im pretty sure ewe2 didnt mean Pritchard will replace these players, but that Hughton will replace them. i hope so anyway, it would be foolhardy to try to make a smaller squad by relying on one player to cover several position, that should be used as bonus to give the effect of a larger squad. i dont think we *need* another midfielder now, a good forward is definatly required unless Elvis shows signs of be what we'd hoped.
