It is, but for Forest the bigger rivalry is Derby and from a Leicester point of view it depends on where you're from/your connections to Leicestershire - to some it's Forest, others Derby, others Coventry.

Obviously for Spurs it is mostly about Arsenal, but it's hardly unrequited with Chelsea, especially these days (and West Ham for that matter). Chelsea have loads of proper rivalries where they are disliked (Spurs, West Ham, Man Utd, Leeds), it's just that they are not #1 arch rival for any of them. As you say, they are #1 for the local noddy teams.

Indeed, although for Leicester the default rivalry is Forest. I think Leicester v Forest was the main East Midlands rivalry (especially in the 60s) until Clough turned up at Derby...

Coventry are natural rival bedfellows seeing as they are fairly close and neither have a required rivalry elsewhere, but neither really feel strongly enough.

That's what a Forest fan will tell a Leicester fan, but ultimately no-one likes losing to a local side. Same sort of thing as Sheffield Wednesday and pretty much every South Yorks team except United.

All correct mate , but I will admit to sometimes wishing we were/had a number one rival, at this point I'll give my head a wobble and tell myself to grow up before someone else does !

That would have it roots in the 1993 season, when Portsmouth finished 3rd losing out on goal difference to West Ham who went up automatically in 2nd, 12 points clear of Leicester, who finished 6th and beat them in the play-off semi. It seriously kicked off after the game outside in Fratton and Hampshire Police lost control. I knew a couple of people who went.

Yep. Quite amusing to see Leicester as CHAMPIONS and little old Pompey bumbling along in the diddiest of diddy leagues.

I remember when they both got promoted in 2003, how extra special it was for Pompey to go up as champions ahead of their 'rivals' Leicester. One's in the Champions League now and one lost in the 1st round of The FA Cup.

Portsmouth v Southampton. I remember their fans fighting in the bar at a Sussex v Hants cricket match in Portsmouth.
