It doesn't really make much difference. Buckingham Palace draws millions of people and is part of the economy that funds the NHS. All this does is provide specialist and skilled restoration jobs. All the money that they earn will go back into the economy as they feed and home their families as well as pay tax.

I object to money that is meant to be for the benefit of the nation being spent on doing up the building where the Queen lives when there are FAR more pressing things to be spending the money on.

Cards on the table; I am a republican. But I really do feel that regardless of your opinions on who should be head of state, this is truly shameful. My wife volunteers at a family support charity called Welcare, and every week there are people turning up in tears, worried about not being able to pay the heating bill or being turfed out of rented accommodation. There is advice being given on how to keep warm without turning up the heating, or how to feed a family of four on ludicrously small amounts of money. Meanwhile, the biggest spongers in the country (who also happen to be the wealthiest) get looked after like this. It really is an absolute DISGRACE.

Welcome to the 5th/6th biggest economy in the world.

All public museums and galleries etc obviously should sell all their works and antiquities then as the cost in maintaining such items and places could obviously be better spent elsewhere.

Stop funding the arts all together as well, money can be spent better elsewhere as it happens.

Yes, we should definitely allow people to starve for the crime of being foreign instead of telling our filthy rich unelected head of state and family to pay for more of the absurd costs of maintaining the many palaces they live in.

thats fair enough, and you can apply that to all the other public and municiple buildings. or lot of other spending that some would rather didnt happen.
