Their records compare unfavourably with the Albion, as does their league position (14th, 4 pts adrift)

From the statistics, it could be argued that their midfield is more successful than the Albion

Watford beat Albion 1-0 at Vicarage Road
Sporting Life - Football News | Live Scores, Football Transfer News & Gossip

Albion played an awful team and did not manage a shot on target. Only four players of that team played started against West Ham: Calderon, Greer, Painter Bridcutt (for 30 minutes only). It was a low point in the season when our winless sequence stretched to nine successive league matches, having failed to score in four of their last five.

Watford lost 0-4 at home to West Ham this season but drew 1-1 at Upton Park

I'd like to see Gus actually play a proper team (with wingers) that is capable of actually attacking rather than sitting back fannying about waiting to be hit for six.

Head-to-head
• Since first meeting in 1921 these clubs have played 103 times in league and cup. Brighton have won 42, Watford 32 and 29 have been drawn.
• Watford have won the last two league meetings with the Seagulls 1-0, but in between Brighton knocked the Hornets out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 fourth-round victory in January 2011.
• Brighton are hoping to add to their 25 home league wins against these opponents, but defeat would see Watford claiming their first double over them in 39 years.

Brighton
• Beaten by West Ham on Saturday, Brighton are now without a victory in five, and are two places and five points outside the play-offs.
• The Seagulls ended 2011 with four successive defeats without scoring a single goal, and will repeat that unwanted statistic if they fail to deny Watford a clean sheet and victory.
• Gus Poyet's side have the best home record in the Championship against bottom-half clubs, having won nine of their 11 games to date.

Watford
• Mid-table Watford have drawn their last two 1-1, and have lost one of 10.
• The Hornets are approaching the end of a fifth successive season in the Championship, and will want to finish in the top half for the first time in four years.
• Sean Dyche has seen his side win three and draw two of their last five on the road, since a 4-0 loss at Shithurst Park on 18 February.

BTW perseus, you spelt the ref's name wrong.

The Albion boss is aware that he will have to make some very difficult decisions on his squad of players during the close season but he insisted that there is still time to prove themselves before the season's climax.

So I think the regulars might get a run out. Whoever plays in the holding midfielder tends to both look good intercepting and bad when there is nobody to pass to, whether or not it is Navarro or Bridcutt. I see the back four as a collective unit and although Mattock is a better player than Painter, Painter works better with Greer and Dunk (or El Abd) in the centre and so does Calderon on the right. They were all in the right positions against West Ham but they still could not cope (Gus Poyet and I saw it the same way). I am not a Dicker fan but he does know what he is doing, whether he can do it is a different matter? My only criticism of him he is too right footed and hence predictable.

The big test will be Birmingham. They will attempt to press and make Albion play the long ball and just how Albion cope with that ???

I think it looks like Watford play 4-4-2. This will explain their midfield success in their terms. 4-4-2 is inferior for creating clear cut chances to 4-3-3, but Reading, Southampton and West Ham are more 4-4-2 and the Albion are more 4-3-3. The extra man in midfield can make life a bit difficult. Arguably, there is a case for playing 4-4-2 in tricky away games.

Gus said he wouldn't play any of the development squad tonight. I prey to God that we see two wingers with Vokes up front, but I think it's very unlikely.
