We can only really judge at the end of the window. But if we ended up with (say) Camara to replace Biss, Udogie to replace Cucu, and Colwill to replace Burn, with about £40m left over, you’d have to say that was decent? No one in, and we look light. But we didn’t plan not to have Cucu so I...
Until the ‘expert’ analysis about how Tuchel/Conte has taken our player to another level (that’s exactly the same level they’ve been performing at for us…)
My bet: Tony is playing hardball on the buyback clause for Colwill. Big club (or Cucu’s agent) thinks it puts pressure on him to back down by making the (already agreed) Cucu deal public. Tony sticks statement out to wrestle back control of the negotiation.
That’s what I’m imagining as well. Doesn’t seem like one who likes to compromise Tony, and may be calculating who has more to lose if the deal falls through…
I think the wording of ‘no agreement’ suggests a bit more than that. But as per earlier post, that may be just ‘you need to agree to what we want on Colvill before we sign off on this’
Feels like most likely Bloom is playing hardball on Colwill. Deal on Cucu agreed subject to that, agent has jumped the gun and Bloom issuing that statement to ensure he doesn’t lose negotiating leverage.
But of course I’m only guessing.
(Along with everyone else)
It shouldn’t wind me up so much, but the reporting on this is mental. So City are ‘threatening to walk away’. From a deal to buy a player we don’t want to sell. That’s like me threatening not to sleep with Sienna Miller.
This is exactly right. Solly playing LWB would be a downgrade on Cucu playing there. But he’s still decent. Just not as good as the player one of the biggest sides in Europe want to sign. That’s not a sleight on Solly, just a fact.
Yeah that’s fair. But I really feel Biss will show he’s one of the best midfielders in Europe now he has the bigger stage. I think he’s that good. Had a slightly wobbly season, probably for obvious reasons, and was still easily the best player on the pitch on many occasions.
