The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Yep, I'm sure he is a good player, but anyone any less than good shouldn't be playing football really. There must be lots of other up and coming good players out there. Maybe we rely too much on the software that spits out potential signings because all the other clubs are given the same list...

Yep on the performance so far he has been. Just makes me wonder why we spend all this time chasing these players we cannot afford, instead of spotting up and coming talent from the lower leagues.

Yep, that's what I persuaded nyself to believe then as well. But we clearly didn't negotiate well enough, and the story at the time was that TB wasn't available to contact.

Stop fooling :lolol: Pompey is the extreme example. Grabban and Conway would have a good bet then, and in hindsight now.

This is true, but had we gambled on getting to the Prem when it was in sight last January we would have been significantly in pocket. I understand the cautious approach but sometimes you have to go with gut instinct, not with a principle carved in stone that was designed three years ago.

Agree, we had a clue to this last January. Our transfer strategy probably works well on paper but in the real world it is counter productive. If we are bidding with other clubs they just go that little bit further knowing that we don't budge. We are very easy to gazump because we are predictable...
