The only joy I will get out of this years GE is seeing Tory after Tory loosing their seat (that's if they haven't resigned already like May). I might have to take a day off for it to be honest.
Just a pity so many of them have already bottled it and decided not to stand.

Such lovely people:

"The Conservative party’s biggest donor told colleagues that looking at Diane Abbott makes you “want to hate all black women” and said the MP “should be shot”, the Guardian can reveal.

Frank Hester, who has given £10m to the Tories in the past year, said in the meeting that he did not hate all black women. But he also said that seeing Abbott, who is Britain’s longest-serving black MP, on TV meant “you just want to hate all black women because she’s there”.

Always think nothing better sums up the hostility the Tories have for the north more in recent times than the fact they decided Lee Anderson (thick bigot that he gives the impression of being) somehow spoke for all of them

"His lawyers said the fact that his donation was to a party led by Britain’s first Hindu prime minister, a politician of Indian heritage, was further evidence of him embracing diversity"

It's like the legal version of "I can't be a racist, my mate's black"

Silly old bat

Get him back in, watching him getting demolished at an election would be wonderful.
It’s possible if he was put into a safe seat, but he’s still banned from Parliament on a 90 day suspension for contempt.

It's remarkable how this has almost been ignored today. Is it because it is about Diane Abbott (I'm no fan of hers) or a black person or a woman? Saying she should be shot, when two MPs have been killed in the last 8 years is also incitement.
All Hester says is he's sorry and we should now 'move on'.

That's what £10million gets you.

He also called all his “foreign” workers together to defend himself against online claims that he had made racist remarks. During this meeting, he said he abhorred racism and told his team their progress would not be “based on the colour of your skin, your ethnicity, where your parents are from”.

However, he also said “we take the piss out of the fact that all our Chinese girls sit together in Asian corner”.

He sounds like the parody of an Aussie comedy character from the 80s pre PC era...

There are a couple of things about this that have left me scratching my head:

I wonder what the Tories would be doing if he was a less generous donor? At what amount does the response change from "What he said was inappropriate, not racist or misogynist, he has apologised, so let's move on (we're keeping the money)"
to
"We condemn what he said & will give the money back ASAP (we can't keep the money, it's toxic)"

My guess is anything under £1m gets the latter response (though I may be giving them too much credit and the reality is something like £10k)

What would the Tories being saying if David Sainsbury was caught saying "I'm not antisemitic, but seeing Grant Shapps makes me hate all Jewish men & he should be shot".
Would the Tories consider this antisemitic and be calling for Labour to return the £3m or so donated last year? Hmmmm...

Yep, it's the classic 'if the roles were reversed' scenario that I often highlight. You could IMAGINE what the usual suspects would be saying if it was someone on the other 'side' saying something like that.

Also, if, as that Mel Stride claimed, it's not race- or gender-based, what's the guy apologising for, then? Because he got caught out, presumably?

The £10m should be given to charity. And Frank Hester should be arrested for a hate crime.

If you stood in the street, pointed at a black woman and said “she needs to be shot” and that she makes you hate all black women, you’d be arrested and likely charged with a hate crime. At least .

Kemi Badenoch, Minister for Equality, a black woman, has been noticeable by her silence.

The press caused more fuss over Ms Abbott drinking a mojita on a train, than this.

I'm increasingly perplexed why this sort of behaviour is allowed. Some Tories have called out Hester as a racist - but presumably only the target of the racism (in this case Dianne Abbott) can actually press charges? If I were her, I would....but perhaps she's wary of the huge amount of vitriol that would inevitably rain down on her from the Mail, Express, GBNews, etc, etc. Unbelievably depressing all round.

There is actually no such thing as pressing charges in UK law. You either support a prosecution (essentially by being a witness in court and talking to the police during the investigation) or not. Cases often proceed without an alleged victim supporting prosecution. The police gather the evidence that a crime has been committed, and the CPS decide whether to proceed based on the evidence provided.

In this case, if he is prosecuted, Abbott wouldn’t need to do anything.
