Don't buy that Starmer is doing anything on the basis of aligning with US policy. He's trying to get elected at the moment, not trying to govern.Don't think the Mail is a key reason. He has been supportive of Israel and it's war crimes since the start. He is supportive of whatever Israel does as it's politically advantageous (aligns with US policy) and the Labour front bench and also a number of leading members including Starmer are in Labour Friends of Israel and receive funding from them.

The over-riding reason in my view that Starmer has been supportive of Israel is that he's desperate to distance himself from Corbyn. He knows association with him is the way to electoral ruin.

Honestly, with some people, it seems they just can't resist taking a pop at Jews at any opportunity, rather like a bloke in Italy in the 1970s just couldn't resist pinching women's arses. They do it because they can. Or think they can.

There is another reason. That, despite everything, despite Bibi, Israel has a right to exist and there are those in the region who want all the Jews in the sea. As was demonstrated when Hamas triggered the present crisis.

Sky News this very morning had Lord Mann on (who's written several reports on antisemitism in British politics) and he said "of course it's not just Labour, but we're also seeing antisemitism incidents in other parties too" at which point Kay Burley interjected with "that's as maybe but we're only focusing on the Labour party".
No, Kay. Antisemitism is bad whether they're Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, Reform, SNP or indeed any other party.
You might not buy it but decades of UK following the US in every political position will prove that it's the case. We are the proverbial tail of the dog.

I don't think anyone feels that Hamas attack on Israel was acceptable. But they are a terrorist organisation, it is expected that they will use terror tactics. Israel is a democratic state, a nation we trade with, have diplomatic relations with, sell arms to, and to some extent share intelligence with.
Israeli forces should not be more indiscriminate than the terror group it says it is fighting.

i think her riposte was fair. It’s a classic tactic for any politician in any party. When they’re in a difficult position, they try to deflect the pressure. In this case it doesn’t wash at all. The Israel / antisemitism issue has dogged Labour for a long time now and continues to do so with the events of this week. That’s presumably what the interview was about. I’ve no doubt that there have been ‘antisemitism incidents' in other parties even if I’ve not heard of any. But they weren’t the focus of this particular interview.
