If your old card number and new one are very similar ask the bank for another new one which is different. It's not uncommon when you get a new card for only the last 4 digits to change and it can be worked out. In early July I made a online purchase that I knew was highly likely to be 'to good to be true' I was assuming fake but I wasn't really bothered if it did the job, so I used my credit card so I could do a chargeback if necessary. I used my other email address so prevent my main one being spammed as well. I was sent a completely different item, that if was genuine, would have cost about £20k. I contacted the company for a refund and they said I could have a refund of a third of the cost & I could keep the item. I explained that as nice as the item was I did not want the item but wanted a full refund and if they didn't refund the money I'd contact the card company. They didn't refund so I got the card company to. All sorted and the wrong item was given to someone who asked for it, it appears that it is a good quality fake, although obviously fake due to the price. I'm not putting what the items were because they were so different that it was comical and people have told others & then I may as well put my real name.
About a month later I was contacted by my card company saying there has been suspicious activity on my account, that was left on my voicemail. I called the bank back via the number on the back of my card and indeed my card had tried to be used for very small transactions but had been blocked, I immediately thought it was due to the transaction on the dodgy website, however this was not the case. This had started in May with things like Costa and DoorDash (American Uber type thing) and was on 4 different phones. I hadn't even loaded it onto my phone. I was questioned on whether I'd given anyone codes that had been sent to my phone and I had to point out that I wasn't sent a code for the transaction I'd had to do a chargeback on that they hadn't blocked. They said my details were being sold on the net. They shut down all my online banking, made me set a 'special' password that I would have to use if I wanted to talk to them, then had to wait for a new card, new pin number & when I'd received that and activated my card they'd reactivate my online banking. It was all very odd.
I decided to contact my main bank that I have my debit and a credit card with and sure enough, my credit card had had small transactions blocked that also started in May and they hadn't bothered to contact me either, they just sent out a new card. I could not work out how they had both my card details & not my debit card which is on my phone and I use all the time but both my credit cards (the main bank one I hadn't used for about a year). They're not stored on any website to use for future payments, they've not been used in the same places. The only connection between the 2 cards is the balance transfer I did in April from my main account one to the one that 1st called me & I'd used on the dodgy website. If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd think that the bank have had a data breach & they've just forgotten to mention it.
Had my phone nicked once, they called China & gave me a £75 bill that Vodafone wouldn't refund, they wouldn't even give me the number that had been called due to 'data protection'.

Late one night in Rio. Large African girl, approached me with an offer of er entertainment. I politely declined and she punched me hard in the nuts. Threw me to the ground and attempted to get my body belt. Failed. We then picked each other up and wished each other good night. She had of course cleaned out my pockets of loose change, and probably earned herself enough for a beer.

Actually email addresses are only the start of it. Many sites take your full name, address, phone number and date of birth. Some even exposed bank card numbers. After my initial post I went back to check my emails again (last time about 4 years ago) and one of my closed emails there had been all the above details taken in a leak affecting 700 million people.!
I was 20 years ago contacted by my Bank for a suspicious purchase on my credit card in Shoreham . Those were the days when most people had a land line and they left a message on my answer machine for me to contact them urgently. Turns out it was an engagement ring I had just purchased for my still lovely wife

Same here except different places, the worst being Delhi and Saigon partly because both included my passport. Not the greatest places in the world for that to happen.

We were conned by a taxi driver on our first visit to Lisbon in the 90's. We picked up the taxi at the regular taxi rank at the airport. When we arrived at the hotel the charge on the taxi meter was about 3 times the amount that was suggested in the guidebooks (pre internet travel guides!). We paid up and only when we had reached the hotel room and mentioned it to each other we realised that on arrival at the hotel he opened the glove box to reveal the taxi meter with the inflated price! He obviously had not reset it after his previous drop off.
Ever since then we look for the meter in the taxi when we get in or agree a price in advance.

Not in Ethiopia unfortunately. There are just so many ways to 'get done'. Ethiopian pickpockets are masters of all forms and I have been left speechless with admiration at some of the tricks employed and they don't all follow the traditional boring distraction techniques.Surely you learn after the first pick pocket ordeal

Did the same thing and my old email add has been leaked by Deezer, the breach included ... "Dates of birth, Email addresses, Genders, Geographic locations, IP addresses, Names, Spoken languages, Usernames". I'd already unsubscribed by the time that was leaked though.
