Yes I did see it. October 27th.

I also saw this: https://www.northstandchat.com/threads/valentin-barco.402906/#post-10782056
(August 15th.)

I rest my case.

Sorry but so much of what we’ve heard is half stories, smoke and mirrors in the transfer market so I don’t think there is a case that anyone can rest on at the moment until a Club announces something themselves…

Both Brighton and Citeh publicly expressed interest about the same time - it is unreal to suggest suddenly Citeh picked up the phone to Bocca jnrs because they heard Brighton was interested and made an immediate offer. Brighton’s offer was rejected by Bocca for being under the £8m buyout clause - Citeh was prepared to pay it - they are not going to fork out £8 m on the basis our scout said Barco would be of interest to Brighton. We are not the only Club with scouts in SA or tapping into top talent - or have access to stats - despite what some people like to imagine - We are also not privy to all the private negotiations that are carried on throughout the year regarding transfer contracts.

As far us ‘finding him’ and others ‘stealing him from us’, Barco was already capped for the U20s, well known in Argentina as he is considered one of their best young FBs - as such he is widely know in top flight football - there is no way he was not on the radar with big European clubs (and certainly was with Juventus for months last summer) and other EPL Clubs when we first expressed an interest - just because a club subsequently makes an offer on a player after we do, it doesn’t mean to say that they were not already watching him for months or even years beforehand...

Another unconfirmed rumor

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Citeh and chelsea weren’t already scouting him and keeping an eye on him as one of many options. I suspect the point is as soon as they hear we are properly interested and making our interest known, they shift into gear deciding if they’ll push through with an offer themselves (more likely because there is competition pushing their hand, even more likely because it’s competition with us rather than another mid-table side (14th-6th is Mid table I’m not doing us down)).

We’ll definitely have other full back options apart from Barco. We’ve been linked with Samuel Iling Junior from Juve and Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla. They are the ones that have been rumoured, but I’m sure there will be others.

We are assuming (hoping!) we get a full back in…..
Let’s cross fingers we can get this one over the line

That and agents using our Interest to increase fees, payments and push others to bid.

Perhaps another case of being 'found out' …bigger clubs look to see who we are interested in and come in with a higher offer

That was exactly what was being suggested above in bold - suggesting other clubs are finding out about players by scouting us, rather than the player is frankly absurd - there is no proof for that and utter nonsense to suggest that these Big 7 clubs need to. As said above, they have their own scouts and stat analysis - These players are already soft targets.

Yes, sometimes other clubs come in after us and make higher offers when it becomes known that the target’s club is thinking of selling but it is also the case, that no Big Club is going to offer more than they need to in the first instance for any player - but as I said above, these players will already be on their radar. It makes sense for them to wait for smaller clubs to make offers first once it becomes clear that the registered club is open to selling them. Seeing those lower offers turned down, allows them to come in with a lower bid than they might not otherwise start with. In other words, using early interest offers from smaller clubs as a ‘stalking horse’ or ‘testing the waters’ (knowing they will always be able to outbid smaller clubs at any stage of the negotiations).

Rather than other clubs ‘finding us out’, it’s just a case that we now have more of the same players within our radar as larger clubs and obviously will lose many of those targets simply because we can’t afford to compete in the way we could when we were a championship side or in the early years as a bottom 10 EPL club where we’d target lower level of players - that’s a testament to how far we’ve come as a club imo, that we are targeting some of the best youth players in the world now is incredible.

EDIT - If anyone has access, Athletic describes how sophisticated Citeh’s global recruitment system is
They certainly don’t need Brighton to find young talent!

Not in Whitechapel
Anybody who genuinely believes that the best team in the world; who have unlimited funds, an army of scouts and a close to flawless transfer record, are actually just sitting there refreshing the #BHAFC hashtag on Twitter until we’re linked with a player they can steal from us is mentally unwell.

Absolute nutters.

When you put it like that :lolol:

My take is that we going for the best and going to be disappointed pretty well every time but you’ve got to be in it to win it. No complaints and with my glass half full mentality no suicidal tendencies when we lose out.

But when we're not disappointed we pull off coups like Caicedo

I think he'll move this window, to either us or City. I suppose the only thing with a new deal is a higher release clause which would instantly get triggered.

He may do this out of loyalty to Boca? I can't see him wanting to stay in Argentina if PL teams want him.

Brighton

This is a classic Brighton transfer drama now. We are desperate for fullbacks which might tip the balance in terms of available game time for the boy….

“That’s certainly been the case over the last month, with it flip flopping between Brighton and City making moves.

The last week has seen the former pushing ahead and according to Pérez, this has solicited a response from Boca.”

That said, how on earth are we in a Universe where we could beat Man City to a signing? Seems highly unlikely.

The only way is if the player has decided he’d rather join Albion than City. If he walks into the City side we have no chance, if he’s “one for the future” at City and the player actually wants a good chance of regular PL time now, we could be in with a shout.

Now where did I put those straws.

City’s fall off in form could hinder any young players being blooded as they try and get back up the table?
