Yes, fair point, he played well. Just a complete lack of pace with most of the other players. Arsenal had one moment of quality that outdid us and quality costs. Are we just prepared to accept that we won’t go to that level of expenditure?
Frankly to make the most of the expansive style of play that Potter makes us play you need quality. We have shown it at times this season but we need our best 11 players on the pitch to make it work and even then we usually can’t win games.
I’m sure that a more pragmatic manager would get more results out of this squad.

I agree with you. I like the expansive passing style, but the players often look ponderous, like they're overthinking to try to make the passing style work - it's not natural to their skill set a lot of the time. I'm not saying they are all bad players, not at all, but the style they are being told to play is not getting the best out of them enough of the time. Bissouma is immense, and seems to have so much time on the ball.

Hasn't a clue about his best formation or his best side. Tinkering can look to be a good trait when you're getting results and out-thinking other managers. Now it just looks a lot like flailing around in the dark trying to conjure up a winning formula. 1 win at home in 2020 is absolutely shocking. He's lucky there are no fans in the stadium as I can envisage the atmosphere getting pretty toxic. I've never really had serious doubts before now, until I saw the team sheet, and I'm even more doubtful now whether he should be our manager going forward. Not my call of course, but some tough talking in the boardroom is needed.

Agreed. Sick of this myth that the players aren't good enough. It isn't that. They look scared to play football.
Indeed.....look at March and Burn in particular... but others too, 9 out of 10 passes are directed backwards, it's their first inclination... back or sideways..... all scared to lose the ball, but ultimately putting our defensive line under more pressure than they already are. Look at Propper today, he looked keen and reasonably sharp, but twice he went into the oppo danger area and inexplicably passed it instead of banging it at the goal.... scared.... statto man will give them a black mark on their performance numbers.

I want to applaud but it makes me sad. So true.

How have we become like this? We were such a united fan base? It felt like under Hughton if we went down we’d go down together. Not so now.

There’s a horrible entitled section to our fanbase that’s been cultivated somehow. Maybe it’s just another effect of 2020.

This is nothing new this is no different to Hughton, Sami, MIcky Adam’s 2 etc

Team on bad run with no sign of turning the corner comes under question from large sections of the fan base. It has happened here before numerous times and it happens at every other club as well.

In comparison GP has had it easy compared to others as he has not had the pressure or reaction of fans in the stadium to our woeful home form.

Today, Potter changed Potterball. No more building from the back. Give it to Sanchez so he can boot it up to Jahanbakhsh and Mac Allister. Brilliant. Seven dimensional chess right there...

Anyone else feel like they’re mostly watching out of a grim sense of duty at the moment?

Too true! I know we’ll play some nice football up to the final third but I’ve lost any belief that we’ll win a match ever again, which is at least half the joy of supporting any team.

Have started watching my “home” team of Plymouth Argyle regularly on streams and enjoy it much more. End to end football, attacking play and goals at both ends.

Still think we’ll be ok if Lamptey, Lallana and Welbeck stay fit and find their form but this is looking like a big if......

It comes from the management PASSION

There was a time we saw Dunk grab his shirt, the badge and the team followed, there's nothing now not even after a hard fought game where we've got a result.

It's sterile, like the grounds nothing there. Do we need crowds? No look at the performances with us there. It comes, simply from within. This PE teacher doesn't have it, there no passion nothing.

I'm feeling really down over this because under Hughton at least there was a unity, a passion. Now there appears a reflection of failure, again

It's a pretty apt description for the constant wailing and whining. It's like a toddler tantrum here at times.

So you expect fans to be happy after yet another game without a win?

Football fans will always moan if their teams result doesn’t go the right way, this will never change.
The whole year in general has been shite for obvious reasons, Albion fans need somewhere like NSC to have a rant without being called a childish name.

Was a bit worried with team selection as it looked a bit Tinkerman. Surprised how well we played in the first half though and would have deserved to be in front but same old problem hitting the net. Not scoring invited Arsenal to give it a go in the second half, which they did. I think our problem was that it was difficult to see how we could introduce three subs into what we had on the pitch and play cohesively.
Not scoring goals at home has got to the “we really are in danger” stage.
I was disappointed with our discipline and lack of organisation at the back when they scored. How the hell he was left unmarked like that was scandalous.

We're on the same page . . . . The other thing is why didn't PsychOTTER change the formation, he could have shuffled players about and gone CH style for the 2nd half.

None of our subs made any diffrence, which tells me enough. It aint the players fault.

Though it seems everyone has got tired of GP a lot more quickly than they did Hughton.

Yes because you either defend well playing dull football, or play duller football based on possession without the results.

We'd all like a Klopp, expansive football fantastic skill, but our budget won't go that far, however we do need to break quickly occasionally ( not never) and create good chances, our football to date over last 18 months is more in hope than expectation of goals, and that is seen in players confidence.

Yep, and it nearly worked. You need to let go of your angst at Hughton’s sacking. We are so much better than we were. OK the results aren’t happening but at least we aren’t stinking the division out. We were on the same page when McGhee was here but we’re reading different books now.

Do you think so?

Teams are built from the back, we seem to have gone backwards in that respect. (That was a piss-poor goal tonight, Burn is out of his depth in one vs one situations).

I totally understand that we disagree re Hughton (which is fine), but are we much better than we were? Perhaps from an entertainment perspective, in some respects it's almost like watching Oscar Garcia, lots of passing with no product.

GP's decisions were strange in so many ways tonight, starting a number of players who aren't match fit at the same time, smacks of poor selection and doesn't do a lot for the respective players confidence. That said we did play nice football again, but again no offensive threat, which has to be at least partially attributed to the lack of recognised forward. Remembering this was an Arsenal team that is struggling defensively - just felt we'd go for the jugular.....

At the start of the season I had as 12th-14th, turns out you were more realistic........

It's beyond that though this season. It's some kind of insideous thing now with moaning despite decent displays. We lost yes TO ****ING ARSENAL. People have lost all perspective, heard we were aiming LONG TERM for the top ten and expect us to suddenly be world beaters this season. It's ridiculous.

Just for clarity, who are we allowed to beat? After every draw or loss you inform us that we have no right to beat the Oppo. Just wondering if there is anyone we should beat or do we just accept we are little old Brighton and be happy that we are on the same pitch as these teams?

Hughton earned a ton of credit and has probably been the best Albion manager in my lifetime. In fact it was really only the last half of that season we lost the plot after he got us promoted then kept us up so I’d say people turned on him very quickly.

But aren't you basing '****ING ARSENAL' on their past glories, rather than a team just ahead of ourselves and with one win in seven?

I don't think supporters feeling we had a good chance of victory to be losing perspective at all. They were also significantly weaker, and their first half performance was actually abysmal. There was one difference they took their chance.

Exactly. Vagabond is totally deluded. He must have only been watching us 5 years or so. With these sort of performances every single manager we’ve ever had has got the same treatment and exactly the same happens at every other club too when their performances stink the league out for such a long period.

But then we struggled in season one as well, playing on the break rather than taking the game to opponents - so perhaps people were satisfied.

We have lost to Arsenal who haven’t beaten us in recent seasons, the same Arsenal that have been having a shite season and the same Arsenal that were just above us before kick off.
So what’s your point saying We lost yes TO ***ING ARSENAL?

I don’t have to remind you about the one home win in 2020, fans rightfully are pissed off.
