Adam Lallana

Not so sure.

From a Manager’s perspective, it is often beneficial to put your own person in, someone without baggage, someone with new ideas (perhaps gleamed from one of the best Premier League set-ups of all time).

I like the idea of Sussex lad Webster being captain but other players will look up to you if you happen to have a shiny Champions League & Premier League medal. This ‘mentor’ like reputation Adam has only adds to my suspicion that he’ll be the go to player once Dunk, Duffy & Stephens have found pastures new this summer.

Long felt Duffy and Dale’s days are numbered under Potter. Would also throw Glenn, Propper and Pascal into the mix.

I know this pisses off a few people here. They are good pros, good guys, but not the right players for the way Potter plays. And if we want to progress it’s the right thing to move forward, to evolve our squad. Fan club members will need to buckle up, I agree there will be numerous outgoings the next few windows.

Would be surprised if Dunk was to go though. Unless he wanted a move and/or we got an offer far too big to refuse.

I guess that the club may actually see the signing of Lallana as another part of the plan that you're advocating. I don't suggest any comparison between the two players or suggest that Lallana's signing would bring anything like similar results, but the club could be looking for the same kind of thing that Clough & Taylor were looking for when they signed Dave Mackay at Derby. He was in his thirties, he had suffered injuries and they weren't going to make any money on resale. However, they already had good young players with raw potential, but saw the value of adding a player who knew what was needed to succeed at the top level and had the ability to set examples and standards and help lift the expectations of those around him.

If someone is able to come in and help improve the younger players that the club has or signs, the payback would not be in his own resale value, but from helping to bring the kind of improvement that can turn what may have been £10M players into £40M ones. I am of course just guessing at the club's motivation, but if we were looking to add that sort of thing to our squad, take a listen to what Klopp says about Lallana between 5:10 and 6:55 in this video and consider whether he may be a likely candidate to try it with:

Great comparison with the Mackay transfer and great post! Trying to recall the most exciting incoming transfer here before Lallana and even thinking in terms of Bobby Smith!

He made 15 odd appearances this season for the Champions! I’d say if he’s on the fringe of that team he’s more than good enough for us.
The last player labelled a sick note to leave Liverpool has done ok this season -Ings👍

I can't see Dunk or Stephens moving on, Stephens may have a lesser role next season due to the emergence of one of Alzate/Molumby and Bissouma continuing to show he's capable of playing at this level, but he'd be a useful option off the bench. Duffy, Ali J, Propper, Andone may well move on and generate a bit of cash and free up some wages, maybe March or Bernado I can see going if the right offers come in.

I just don't see Dunk going anywhere unless a crazy offer comes in and I think that time has now past, Potter absolutely loves him, as he often says in his interviews, he knew from the outside looking in that Dunk was a good player, but now he's worked with him it's only now he realises just how good he actually is.

The other problem we have is that with such a quick turn around between seasons, there are 7 weeks between todays games and the first game of next season then we've got a really short pre-season with not much time to bed in new players, have them adapt to Potterball etc, so I would imagine the new signings will be introduced slowly like Lamptey and Mac Allister were after them arriving in January.

Sure we will see some transfers, we always do, but I don't think this summer is the one for a squad revolution.

Nothing will ever compare with the sensational news that we had signed Bobby Smith. Bear in mind that we were a Fourth Division side then and he had played centre forward for England only a few months earlier. I also remember reading about it on the front page of the (Evening) Argus while queuing outside the old North Road swimming baths. A big crowd of us swarmed around the kid with the paper, hardly believing it. That was the only way you found out in those days.

Bridge doesn't really count, though. Great player but not one of ours. Vicente I was never fortunate enough to see, so maybe. This Lallana transfer just has something about it. After a series of underwhelming transfer windows, suddenly BOOM! Great start!

Dunk is good enough to play in a top six side, good enough to play Champions League football and good enough for the Euro 2021 squad. If the crazy offer comes in (which I think it will do from Chelsea as their centre backs lack experience and leadership) I don’t think the club will stand in his way (mainly because Ben White has the potential to be even better).

I’m softening myself up for the inevitable anguish of him leaving and trying to accept it before it happens.

There is no doubt he is good enough, he'd improve most defenses in the league. If I was a Liverpool fan I'd rather have Dunk in there than Joe Gomez who seems to make one major mistake a game. But would any club be willing to pay what we would consider to be a tempting offer. His worth to us is probably more than anyone wants to pay for a player who turns 29 in November, there is no resale value, which may not bother a club like Chelsea, but they'd probably be looking to replace him in 3 seasons time with a younger player so I cannot see them wanting to go north of the £50 million plus it would probably take for us to consider selling our club captain.

The Adam Lallana turn.

1 touch and I'm away, the Cruyff takes 2 or 3 too many touches.

I think things are about to get quicker in midfield.
He mentions about 'the manager' meaning Klopp, whatever you think of Klopp, he's a great manager, potentially one of the best out there. And he'll be taking that learnt knowledge to Brighton and furthering his coaching skills!

Exciting stuff to see!

Would we stand on his way and ask for an unreasonable amount if he wanted to go though? I would not be comfortable making him stay against his will after the loyalty he has shown so far, with the Fulham blip. Not my money or problem though
