I said this on another thread but travel companies will not survive July/August without package holidays/flights happening, and despite what Spanish authorities say many parts of Spain will not survive without British tourism, and by British tourism I don’t mean the muppets that sit around drinking €2 pints all day in Benidorm so parts of Europe and airlines are going to pull up trees to get some kind of tourism up and running.

Everything depends on the next 2/3 weeks imo, if Spain and the rest of Europe continue to see a decline in fatalities and cases then air travel will be likely back on the cards for summer, with precautions, if there is a second wave then absolutely no chance, unless a drug is developed to treat COVID.

Further afield places like Barbados GDP is 45 percent tourism some hotels are allowing check ins already.

Ditto. I won’t be waiting until 2021, if we’re allowed to travel overseas by train, rail or car.

My view is it’s PR by the Gov

Police have said its unworkable
Businesses (whilst can cope with Skype etc) will want face to face
Cabinet are split and leaks said it’s Ill thought out

The moment Gatwick opens properly and the airlines fly, people especially in their 20’s and 30’s will fly.

Can they cope with the sheer numbers?

This isn’t 1 company

Think it's essentially Government backed (required by law), so in the event the fund runs out of money (not impossible given the companies now at risk) it'd initially go into deficit (think this happened in the 90s) and would if necessary be bailed out (by us, of course as taxpayers)

You work for Virgin don’t you? When the feck are they going to start refunding flights (not packages, just flights)? I am no fan of BA but they have been refunding quickly, yet to receive a refund from Branson’s crew for a single cancelled flight!

Luckily we cover all flights we book with airline failure insurance, I am starting to wonder if this is how I will get the refunds due!

Having said that the list of airlines no longer covered is getting very long.

Ive got a final payment of £1500 to pay Virgin Holidays next month, if i dont pay I lose my £1500 deposit, if I do pay and it gets cancelled will i get cash back or a voucher?

will the 14 days in quarantine still apply in Sept? so many questions too many answers........I know if I pay the balance it will be on a credit card...

THanks

Just had a quick read and it seems to be what I thought......pay the balance on a card....or dont pay and lose the holiday..

If only Virgin would reply to emails or answer the phone, The last Virgin holiday message was only call if your holiday in in 72 hours!!!!..then as soon as you put the booking reference in the line goes dead....

All I want to know is if I can put off paying the balance until nearer the time.

Drop me a PM with the booking number.

I’ll check it tomorrow

My current thinking is, if I am allowed, a holiday in Corfu in September but drive to Brindisi and take the ferry from there. Being recently retired we have the time to do that.

Not being able to fly has had a huge impact on me, and I’ll definitely be flying again just as soon as I can.

For one, I haven’t seen my wife and kids since mid March, whereas normally I’d be at home with them for around 6/7 days every month, minimum.

Secondly travel is a major part of my job, and while we can just about get by with Zoom and MS Teams now, especially when all our clients are forced to as well, travel will come back into the mix once CV19 is sufficiently ‘gone’. Perhaps not quite as much as before, though.

Last year I did 59 flights, 15 airports and over 200,000km. Until CV19, 2020 was on a similar path. I’d be delighted if that reduced somewhat going forward (not least for my carbon footprint), but I certainly won’t be waiting till 2021.

So it's all about the virus and everyone has forgotten about global warming then? Be a while before there's a vaccine for that.

The quiet has been lovely - and the air is so clean and clear, been able to see for miles really sharp. Let's not fly much and keep this the way it is now.

I've made a life plan now which only involves 2 more long haul trips in total, and a fly drive to Iceland.

After they've all been done, it'll be just ferries to Ireland, or through the tunnel.
