I’ll certainly carry on, but if this season does finish now, I would expect a refund for the games that were not paid.

Um, point 3 - I thought at the last known juncture our owner was being paid about minus £30m a year.........

Separately (sort of anyway) on what was, I think, intended to be a positively-intended thread about something good the club have done (to help fans, and were under no compulsion to do so, and that will take more money out of Tony’s personal pocket) gets infiltrated by a few posts from people looking to pick holes in it. It’s always the same.....it’s never good enough for some people.

Re the players........my firm I’m sure has a few people paid PL-level wages. I don’t think any have been asked, or are expected, to forgo any of their salary to help smaller firms (they are sure as hell going to pay for all this in taxes for next 30 years though)

Whenever anyone talks about ‘the club’ and it involves cost, Tony pays. We make a loss. He covers it.

Exactly, the Qatar royal family are fine as they are but the third choice keeper has to cough up 20%.
But no one else has too, esp the people telling footballers to lose money.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has been criticised by fans after a number of supporters were charged for their next season ticket, despite the ongoing suspension to the Premier League.

Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) had called on the club to suspend the scheduled payments "during this incredibly difficult time". Some fans were charged £620 on Wednesday, they said, describing the situation as "incredibly disturbing". Newcastle United declined to comment.

A statement from NUST claimed talks were held with the club on the subject this week."Newcastle United contacted us earlier today," NUST said. "The club stated it has no intention of freezing or delaying payments, both for those that pay annually and monthly".

Fair enough as it gives people an option of no payment in those 3 months. However club giving nothing away as no different to internet/phone offers that offer first x months free, To me any good intention was ruined by mentioning £3m

I’m sorry, but I don’t really agree with a lot of the positive statements here. We’re talking about deferments for payments for a season that may not even take place considering the current one is yet to finish (and may not do until next summer rather than this coming one). If the club could guarantee that the 20/21 season was going ahead, then I get it. But they can’t, so it’s wrong to demand money from customers for a product they may never receive.

As for the £3m loss of cash, they could easily save this money with a slight cut in players’ wages, which seems rather more appropriate right now.

The answer to that first question is yes it's on the club website in the article about the payment holiday so therefore there is no need to feel sympathy for season ticket holders losing out if they cant see the games

I didn’t see this so thank you for that and I would adjust my above comment accordingly. Not that it helps people in financial trouble right now.

It's what they are doing FOR NOW, based on the current situation. If the situation changes, they'll do more for sure - nothing in the way the club have acted should mean anyone thinks any differently. They're doing precisely not what you're saying - they have actively deferred their 'demand' for money.

You can always cancel your DD if you are not happy and give up your ST.

I'm not sure what else they could do at this point.

No one has officially announced that the season is at an end. Too many unknowns to be definitive with refunds.

You're right we don't know what's going to happen, and neither does the club. Despite no announcement on how the season will finish or next season will start, they've given a deferment of payments.

If the PL do announcement the season is officially at an end, then you may have a point, until then, it seems reasonable.

Unfortunately I may have to. I’m stuck abroad, worried about my job and I’m unsure how long I’ll be able to pay for this. But if I defer and then get back and they charge me more, but I have no job, then I’m absolutely screwed.

Personally, I think they should stop payments from STHs until we know the season is going ahead, not taking payment and then maybe giving money back.

If people read this https://www.imperial.ac.uk/mrc-global-infectious-disease-analysis/news--wuhan-coronavirus/ then it's more than reasonable to expect it's exceedingly unlikely 'we' will be watching the Albion any time soon at The Amex

" Moreover, suppression strategies will need to be maintained in some manner until vaccines or effective treatments become available to avoid the risk of later epidemics."

Agree that we probably won't see live football at the Amex until August 2021. How ever much the PL and EFL and us want to find some kind of solution, it's obviously the medical model that will dictate what happens. Cancel and refund this season, offer season ticket holders the opportunity to carry on paying or defer indefinitely. Then when a season does start reverse that so those paid have a payment holiday and those who deferrred start paying.

edit- considering that the talk in Italy is that one big football match, Valencia v Atalanta, had such a major impact on spreading the virus

I would suggest not just cancelling the direct debit. Speak to the club first. There is a big difference
