Due to the way we set up to play, which I hope will change next season.

Why will it change? This is hughton's style and always has been.

The aim next season is exactly the same as it is this season...and that is to remain in the division. Maybe the " kick on" theory is to get more points and finish a couple of places higher, but essentially this is premier football.

Hughton is not an out and out attacking manager and if people think he is going to change that I think they are going to be disappointed.

I think he will persevere with Murray up front on his own until he no longer can compete and then he will get in a ulloa type hold up man, unless he keeps hemed and uses him in that position.

As Locadia himself admitted he cannot head a football. I hope that basically he is being trained night and day how to hold the ball up, win a header, do all the dirty stuff that Murray excels at. So his pace and striking ability are combined with the other things we need.

Though the fact that he never gets to play as striker even as sub for ten minutes here and there indicates to me that we, as supporters, thought we were getting a centre forward but Hughton and the recruitment team maybe see him as more of a wide player.

Baffling signing. From what little I've seen he looks good but if he doesn't fit our system he's being wasted.

Why is it baffling? Do we even know he doesn't fit our system yet? What if Murray or Ulloa got injured, he'd have been given a run out wouldn't he?

Jury is out whether he is good enough for the Premier League for sure, but far from a baffling signing. We missed out improving our striking options in the summer, and it was getting difficult in January, so we have undoubtedly taken a bit of a punt on a player that was injured, but scored 9 in 15, and looked to have the attributes we were looking for.

He isn't the first and he won't be the last January signing to come in from another country and struggle to hit the ground running.

I think he said heading is an area he can improve on. I don't see a problem with that, little bit different from saying he cannot head a football. Personally I don't think Peter Crouch technically is very good at heading a football, he's just bloody tall.

I think there is little doubt Locadia hasn't hit the ground running as people had hoped. You can draw a conclusion that they see him more as a winger, or that he is not fitting our system, or you can simply say he is not impressing enough to be ahead of Murray or Ulloa in the pecking order.

Time will tell, perhaps he doesn't fit the system, or is there as a wing option, or he just isn't up to it. Let's hope with a full pre-season with us and a chance to settle in a bit, that he does turn out to be another successful signing.

He cost a zillion pounds therefore he MUST play. Even if it's in goal.

Yes. When will people understand the concept of “sunk funds”..... we’ve spent £15 million pounds developing a water powered pogo stick...we can’t stop now.

Yes. Apart from scoring on his debut, he’s been shit. What a strange post. He came to us injured and was meant to get up to speed as he recovered...then we get to the business end of the season and we need strikers who are battle hardened.

He is next seasons player...not this.

I dont think that he will as I believe that CH will play on United known weakness in central defence and start GM. Could be a 70th minute sub though. as plan B

That known weakness we've failed to score against in 180 minutes so far this season despite arguably having the better of both games you mean ? The one that's only conceded 27 goals this season (one more than the runaway leaders) ?

Anyway, back on topic, can't see us starting Propper behind Locadia. Unlikely CH will move Gross from the position where he's been such a success, and Locadia can't operate as a target man for a team that works around wingers (he's self-confessed an inability to head the ball). He must be a 'signing for the future' - presumably we're thinking about 442 at some stage.

I agree with the giste of your post about CH.

But I think CH was a pragmatist this season with the limited attacking (PL quality) resources at his disposal. But over a few PL transfer windows, we might evolve back to the brilliant counter-attacking at pace football of our Championship years under CH. We need the personnel first.

We were told that he is a number ten when we signed him.
We have Gross owning that position at the moment.
Locadia needs to either fit in as a square peg in a round hole, presumably out wide.
Or..
Show that he can add more value than Gross.

Exact quote from Locadia re heading is "I wanted to head it diagonally, but I'm not good at headers. I need to practise, I don't like headers. I am better shooting than heading". So closer to what you said admittedly. Either way you cannot see Hughton starting a lone centre forward who is not very good in the air.

We were told that he is a number ten when we signed him.

From Hughton:

"He is a player we have been aware of for sometime and it's been no secret we have wanted to add a striker of his type.
"He is a strong, powerful and quick centre-forward with a real eye for goal, and will increase our attacking options in the second half of the season."

Doesn't sound much like a number 10 to me.

Doesn't sound much like the player I've seen either

Ah yes. And if he doesn't score it's because he's not had a run up front yet...you know, in that target man position he can't fill...
An odd signing but he's young and likely in the plans for next season if we stay up and can hopefully be a bit more expansive. Not as odd as the attitude of some of our simpleton fans though.

We saw it with Izquierdo and we saw it with Schelotto. If Hughton doesn't trust a player to do the job required of him, at both ends of the pitch, then he won't play them.
It doesn't mean "we've wasted all that money on a record signing we never play." At least not yet anyway.

He hasn't really hit the ground running yet - and maybe he does need a chance to play in his favoured position (whatever that is). Surprised he hasn't had a couple of run-outs with the U23s to start acclimatising to the Brighton way - and to see how the Brighton way can work with him.
Fingers crossed for him coming good next season.........

To me, he looks a lot like Izquierdo did for the first 6 months, a little bit lost, lacking a bit of match sharpness and still adapting to the league. He's shown flashes of looking very good indeed, but lacks the consistency that comes from playing regularly against the higher level of player in the PL.

Put simply, he's not up to speed yet and since his arrival, Murray has more or less consistently done the business. He'll get a shot and I'm sure he'll come good soon enough.

Still not mathematically safe, so start the strongest 11 (which did the business at home to Arsenal and Tottenham).

I'm sure we'll see more of Locadia next season, after a preseason of building an 'improved playing style' as NSC would want.
