10,000 empty seats against our biggest rivals at home in cup will make us look micky mouse imo

I struggle to get embarrassed by anything to do with football, but if we really do have a half-empty stadium for this it just completely backs up what other fans say about Brighton i.e most of the Amex is made up of new fans, loads of them with Brighton as their second team while they 'support' another Premier League club, a load of plastics who need comfy padded seats and sit in silence unless the team is winning. And won't want the hassle of going to watch their team if there are any nasty wannabee hooligans about and they get held up at the station. I really didn't think that was true, but I'm starting to believe it now.

I totally agree. I fear for the club should we ever return to league one or two status. Crowds of ten thousand loyal fans as the plastics remain at home and return to their Glory Teams.

During the Amex construction phase the concentrated average thoughts of an average attendance at our new ground was around 14,000. Our recent success and increased fan base almost certainly ensures that we would beat this figure regardless of the league we played in

There are a very good number who will avoid this fixture for this very reason. Some of them will have been fans for decades. I would not condem anyone for choosing to steer clear of violence, even if it's only preceived violence.

There will be an even bigger number who will be skint after Christmas, can't make it after work and don't want the kids tired after before a school day.

I predcit 22,000 for this game. Which will equate to about 5,000 of the tickets for sale remaining unsold in addition to the 3000 that are not going to be offered for sae.

Look around the Amex at any weekday evening game and you will see loads of empty seats which will largely be ST holders who cannot make it for a number of reasons kids, work, distance travelled etc. Forget the fact the tannoy announces 29-30k I would be surprised we have anymore than 25-26 in the stadium. This game will get around 24-25 by the time Xmas is over which is around the amount we could reasonably expect given the modern attitude towards the cup, weeknight timing and the travel issues.

That is not too shabby and certainly not embarrassing.

I don't think you're right there. There are hardly any empty seats for most games in the Premier League.

25,000 would be good for this game, but I can't see us getting that judging by a lot of people's attitude on here. I just find it sad that football has got to the point where drawing your biggest rivals in the FA Cup is seen as an inconvenience, and that people would rather watch us play Stoke on a Monday night in the league.

The tannoy will not be announcing anything like 29-30k for this game. The pretendance figure is based on every STH attending the game, whether they're at the game or not, because the seat is sold regardless of whether the STH actually turns up. But this'll be a TRUE attendance figure, being as everyone who buys a ticket will be in their seat (unless some of them rush the turnstiles and get locked out again).

As an aside, anyone who actually feels "embarrassed" about attendances at a football match needs to get a life.

:lolol:That is complete rubbish. Give your head a good old wobble. I have missed only 2 home games at the Amex, ever, and have come across a football tourist (supporter of another club) only once. You may as well tell me that Faversham is being swamped by refugees from Zimbabwe who are scrounging on the dole and taking our jobs at the same time. I smell a midlife crisis here. I suggest you find youself a dolly bird in a mini skirt and buy yourself one of these:

Agree that was the point I was making even when we announce 29-30k at a league game on a weeknight there is nowhere near that in the actual stadium. On weeknight games I certainly notice lots more empty seats in the West upper and looking across to the east you see the most gaps which is where most of the families are.

The point you make is exactly what I was getting at that this is not a game already paid up on a season ticket someone is just skipping so will reflect the amount of people who actually attend weeknight matches less a percentage for all the reasons documented in this thread

Reasons for not going:

Its a monday night on TV
Tickets are £25 for a cup game in January
Palace fans are knobs
Travel to and from the ground will be a nightmare
The likely hood of us fielding a full strength team is very low
The policing of the league game was shocking

Reasons to go:

Its Palace in the Cup.

After looking at all those points, it was a simple decision, im going.

I believe a number of factors will stop people attending, the main tough will be that the cups are not taken seriously and therefore people vote with their feet.

Oh I've bought our three st seats by the way.

Can’t really agree with that. Stupid scheduling, train problems, on TV, ballache before and after, first Monday after holidays......hardly surprising, particularly when you add to that likelihood that we won’t put a strong team out (nor will they).

Also, the FA Cup isn’t what it was - PL survival or success is far more important to all clubs in the PL, so they’ll all treat it the same. I doubt many 3rd round games with a PL team at home would get close to selling out in the same circumstances (Liverpool/Everton possibly the exception)

That's just b0llocks. Over 20k (will probably end up 23-25k I reckon) would be a good turnout imo considering it's
the 3rd round, Monday night in Jan, on telly. Yes it's palace, but not everyone believes the hype around the derby (same goes for some palace fans I know) for a start.

Total rubbish. As has already been stated in numerous posts on this thread, many long time supporters are missing this game for a whole host of reasons. Nothing whatsoever to do with "new" fans. For what it's worth, 35 years of watching the Albion, missed only 2 games at Gillingham but I probably won't bother with this for reasons already mentioned elsewhere (and none of them to do with any kind of worry over security).

There have been 277 posts on this thread and I would guess about 25 people who claim to have never missed a game since the Charity Shield have said they aren't going. 25 out of a 30,000 crowd isn't very much. You can't say it's nothing whatsoever to do with new fans, that's clearly complete rubbish. At least half of the Amex crowd ARE new fans, it's impossible to deny that. And if they don't fancy this because 'it's only the FA cup' then the crowd will be much lower. FACT.

I'm not fussed as I don't see it as a competitive game. Win or lose, for me, it doesn't mean anything.

If they win then I'll be "meh - we were playing Jiri Skalak and Jamie Murphy - that's how little it meant to us", and if we win I'd expect them to think and say the same.

If this was a genuine first XI v first XI bonus game between the two league fixtures, I'd be all over it. It won't be so I'm not.

I can afford the £25, I don't mind if it's cold, I don't care about spotty youths with fireworks. I'm just not that fussed about it.

I did actually attend the Carabao Cup game in Bournemouth this season, if that buys me any credit back.
