I keep picturing that thing we had to do in training, im sure all ex matelots remember it, where they stick you in a ship compartment set up... throw a thunderflash into it, and start flooding it whilst you had to use bits of wood and mattresses etc to bung the holes up :lolol:

Should have joined the RAF......the only water we had was in the hotel swimming pools.

I did. Did my training at RAF Hereford, and was told towards the end of my training that I was going to RAF Stafford. Left whilst I still could and joined the RN :lolol: The thought of a couple of years in Stafford really didnt appeal.

Yep Saw a good chunk of the world in 2 years in the RN. Much more appealing than Stafford... to me anyway.
The only downside, was my papers didnt turn up from the RAF during the RN inoculation stage, and they made me have the whole lot again. Which worried me a bit

The most curious thing..
The first episode of "Sailor" in 1976 with the old old Ark Royal, virtually nothing was working properly when they took it out after a major refit.

Which answers the age old question--

What do you do with a drunken sailor, what do you do with a drunken sailor, what do you do with a drunken sailor, earlie in the morning?

Shave his belly with a rusty razor, shave his belly with a rusty razor, shave his belly with a rusty razor, earlie in the morning.

I got my nose broken playing football against the JFK in 76, got a call round though, it was segregated then, blacks up forrard, hispanics midships, and whites aft.

Really ? I remember talking to some matelots.en route to.the falkalnds in 1985 , they told me that but i did t really believe them , i sailed down on the SS Uganda , i remember sailing into san carlos water as morning broke , penguins swimming alongside , the contrast in weather to ascension island was amazing , god i feel.old now :lolol:
