I think y'all might need to just wind your expectations in a bit ...

Also, when have you actually seen him play? Izzy was excellent for us last season, one of the stand out players from Jan (when he came to us from Rotherham). He's he a really nice guy and will compliment any dressing room. If we could have two loans from the PL then we would have got him back in a shot.

He'll be great for you.

Only on TV admittedly, but just not that good for me.

Really think we can and should do a lot better.

Edit - obviously when we played against him as well, and he didn't impress me then either.

So, is this case of we missed out on Abraham, so went for the next best Chelsea youth striker?

He's not a striker, plays more in the supporting strike role, the 3 behind the loan striker. We played him a lot at #10 (mainly 'cos we didn't have anyone else to play there after Kasey was injured in Feb), but he'd be decent on the right or left too.

Great player, drives forward with the ball very well and works hard coming back.

A good if not spectacular start.

Already with Ryan we've seen words to the effect of 'The Argus understands the Albion will be looking to have three competitive squad members for the GK jersey' so can surmise that Ryan Isnt explicitly number one.

Personally I just expected us to fly out of the blocks with 4/5 core squad members and 2/3 marquis signings - of which Delaney would be one and A.N.Other Striker would be the second.

I'm not saying we've been under prepared but we've certainly been gazumped in the case of Abraham (morally I agree with club's stance of not paying the family/agent fee in this case) and perhaps with Haraguchi and Delaney been too ambitious for our budget.

To my mind it's a pivotal two weeks in the window. Does TB stick or twist?

I'd be surprised if Ryan doesn't start the season, but agree with you that we need to make two or three marquee signings, and they'll cost, they would have anyway, but the fees and wage demands have risen substantially this summer. I'd also agree that we need a striker and midfielder as priority signings, perhaps a winger/wide player too.

Wonder how many of the "Let Hudds sign a load of championship players" brigade will now change their tune and claim Izzy Brown is the next big thing.

At least he will be an upgrade on Akpom I suppose :shootself

The little I saw of him, he was extremely impressive. When you turned us over at your place, he was the stand-out player, and he had plenty of company.

We don't need cheerleaders.

Izzy Brown on loan apparently
Looks like Chelsea don't want to sell, and Huddersfield arn't allowed to do a 2nd loan from them.

Under 21, so it helps with the 25 man limit. To compete with Groß, and Baldock. Seems positive.

He was absolutely not the stand-out player in that game, in fact he was not even the 3rd or 4th stand-out player, Rajiv Van La Parra caused us more toil than Brown that evening.

Brown is a far, far, far better player than RVLP. Trust me.

I do know that, don't forget we had him on loan for a short period.

I was more making the point that our fans are already rewriting history to prepare for this potential loan signing.

I am not rewriting history on the basis of a potential signing. I said that Brown was the standout player in that game at the time, along with Mooy. See, for instance, posted on 3 Feb (I can't embed it):

Assumed he was going to sure things up at half time but i wonder whether that third on the stroke of half time persuaded him to stay 4-4-2.
Brown and Mooy were outstanding. If we get promoted, we could do a lot worse than getting them on season-long loans or, even better, buying them.

Decent prospect and good age for squad purposes. Competition in the number 10 role without significant outlay.
I always hope that this type of signing keeps money back for the more important forward or delaney

Wages are bandied up into our overall transfer budget. Of which Brown's will be significant with a new deal before making the move.

Then there's a potential reported or unreported sweetener. It is by no means free.

Get all that but still cheaper overall than a purchase I guess. Assuming the papers are correct the price quoted for brown was circa 8m so even taking in the extras it will be cheaper.
