What's the story Fikayo Tomori?

Tomori genuinely looked like a deer in headlights for 75 minutes and gave the ball away more than he kept it
Not according to some of the pundits who were at the game, though. Phil Brown for starters......and....err....actually it seems quite a few NSCers.

I look forward to seeing your name in the paper next week when your favourite for the Leicester job or Arsenal job when Wenger gets sacked. I think the Manager has earned the right to evaluate players as he sees it in training. After all, it has taken BHA to the top 2 of the Championship this season

I have absolute faith in CH, I think he's quality.

My argument is that a 19 year old with no experience, with his mates in Lancing, having a good time and playing with good confidence, can't be compared to playing in a game like tonight.

I am 110% positive that CH is not as stupid to think; "Ah, this young 19 year old kid with no experience just scored a hat-trick during the 30 minute Mario-Kart 6v6 exercise, he's definitely ready/good enough for Tuesday night".

I much prefer being at live games, without doubt.
But you see far more of the game on Sky, I know many hate to hear that, but it's just true.

Again, opinions are subjective, I thought he was poor, Sky commentators thought he was poor, and then mentioned that he had obviously improved in the second half.
I didn't rate him, you do, who cares, bring on Saturday (hopefully with Poco back).

Ludicrous thread. 97% of respondents think the boy did well after an understandably nervous start. 3% have written irritable needless sniping, with a determination and persistence that beggars belief, after a game we lost for numerous reasons (including bad luck) none of which have anything to do with this lad. Give it a rest, FFS.

Some of the responses to this thread beggar belief. You lot do actually know that he is NOT our player don't you? "He's one for the future..."; "He's just a kid...."; "He'll be great in a year or two..." that was my personal favourite.
He may be all of those things and good luck to the lad.
BUT
tonight showed me that he, along with Akpom, were ridiculous signings at a time when we needed proper cover and experience. Our January business was a disgrace and if we go up it will be in spite of that business and in no way enhanced by it.

Big team with decent wide players vs 19 year old with bugger all experience - on balance I think the kid did very well and he was certainly not the problem tonight.

You're arguing for the sake of arguing.

Tomori had to go on unexpectedly, was nervous, but eased into the game. Several players made mistakes tonight, but the loss was not down to Tomori.

Absolutely not, I've made my point but 2 other posters keep pressing, so I respond.
I don't rate the guy, other's do, good luck to him, bring on Saturday. That should be it, but then a response comes with a question, and on and on etc.

Several players made mistakes tonight, but the loss was not down to Tomori.

Yes, I've said this already.

One of the best Managers in the last 30 years (Alex Ferguson) has consistently blooded youngsters in big games based on training ground abilities. It is possible that you can see ability on the training pitch enough to play them.

You have already stated ''your assessment is the correct one'' - Others agree and others disagree but this lad will be a top top player in years to come and I am sure there will be more hickups in that journey but I actually hope Brighton fans experience it as their player and not someone else's

I think the point is that he isn't a left back, end of. That isn't his fault.
Pocognoli going off and being replaced by a 'not a left back' seriously affected the team's balance and I don't think we recovered.
I don't think this lad is any better than Hunt, so I'm struggling with the whole situation.

Show me another team that can field their fourth choice left back vs arguably the best team in the division and hold them down that flank.

As for Akpom he performed a similar role for Hull last season when they got promoted, he's one year older, he might not be Messi but we could have done a lot worse.

Yes of course it's possible, Ferguson brought kids in that he knew or had scouted, trained them and put them in games.
Hughton picked one of the last balls out of the bargain bin and got this kid, who he's had a few weeks to work on.
No comparison.

You have already stated ''your assessment is the correct one'' - Others agree and others disagree

Accompanied by this -> :lolol: - which surely conveyed sarcasm, or self deprecation.

I'm more than happy for anyone else to rate the guy, I personally don't.
But he might turn out quality, who knows? For the 100th time, good luck to him, I'd love to be proven wrong and he be a quality player for the rest of the season.

HE IS NOT OUR PLAYER FFS.
I'm sure Alex Ferguson 'blooded' loads of loan players in 'big games'. Of course he flipping didn't, he let let teams like Brighton do it for him.

If we signed a full back because we knew Bong and Liam were out long term, then that is no longer 4th choice. It was not the time to gamble, if we were going to only go for loans in January then they needed to be proven and/or experienced. Not players who have literally not played a full season between them.

This is a good point, albeit with a nuance different to the soppy emoting by the OP. I would have imagined our winter window loanees would have been experienced players to give us a boost, not young try-outs. Maybe the young try-outs are being looked at for possible signing in the summer, but this is not an experiment that makes sense to me right now, in our final thrust to go over the top in a blaze of death or glory. Anyway, tonight will not define our season, and 3 points against Forest will banish any such quibbling (for a few days....).

Maybe not at the moment

Lots of players broke into Alex Ferguson's Man Utd without going out on loan

You're talking like the kid fvcked up. He did literally nothing wrong. He was not the problem. He is 19 and has provided decent cover at both right back and left back. I think it was a good bit of business.

We lost because the freakiest of freak goals let them back into the game, on any other night it would have been a draw. The squad is good and we go again vs Forest.
