Stop your direct debit and mail labourmembership@labour.org.uk to tell them. Couldn't be much easier. You'll get a long email back explaining their current position, which if anything backed up my decision to leave, and details on how to rejoin but it states your resignation has been processed and you're out.

I did this and also sent an email to my Local Party Secretary explaining why as I didn't want anyone to think it was a local issue. Agreed the email back was unconvincing, essentially if May tries to turn us into a xenophobic offshore tax haven we will get very cross with her. I have not given up on politics, quite the opposite, but will look at other channels probably based around specific issues.

Sadly most of the new membership have never knocked a door in the name of the Labour party.

and equally sadly most of those who are tory have not either...............its a sign of our times

Same here. Part of my problem is that my heart wasn't into campaigning with Corbyn at the helm. I have quite a lot of mental and physical energy and enthusiasm for things I'm passionate about. I am also very resilient but once I stop believing in something I find it difficult. Like you I'll find something else, maybe political, maybe charitable or maybe combining one of my other interests into something more productive.

Good luck with what you decide to do.

Knowing the passion you have maybe pressing for a Shirley Williams style split offering a left of centre viable alternative to the current administration and indeed the crock of Shyte that is the alleged opposition?

Am I right in thinking that quite a few people are leaving the Labour Party and the leave process is a little complicated?

Some people cancelled their direct debits six months ago when they realised they would have to pay £25 to vote in the leadership election and they have now lapsed and some are resigning, quite possibly due to the handling of Brexit.

It is very straightforward to leave though.

Nice bloke.

Sneering Corbyn cheerleader Paul Mason has branded UKIP voters “toe-rags” who would “nick your bike”. Talking specifically about the Stoke by-election, Mason, flanked by the Green Party’s Sian Berry and Guardian columnist Zoe Williams, offers this contemptuous analysis of first-time voters who consider backing UKIP:

“They’re not working class Tories… most of the UKIP people are either people who haven’t voted or have flipped in a radical way from Labour. They are toe-rags, basically. They are the bloke who nicks your bike.”
Arousing nervous laughter from his audience, Mason makes clear he is not joking:

“No, seriously, that’s who it is, it’s the bloke who does all the anti-social things.“
Mason made the comments at a Novara Media event in trendy Hackney last week. He also told the audience he would be going up to Stoke to campaign for Labour. Sure this will go down well on the doorstep…

UPDATE: UKIP has responded to Mason’s diatribe. The party’s Media Spokesman Patrick O’Flynn said:

“Paul Mason has lifted the lid on what the radical left think about long time Labour voters who have lost faith with that party and moved across to UKIP. He thinks they are “toe-rags”, presumably for feeling a sense of patriotism, for feeling concerned about open door immigration and for supporting Brexit.

“Any voters who care about these issues but were pondering whether to still vote Labour have their answer: Mr Mason and the radical metropolitan left think they are scum. We in UKIP understand and share their concerns and will always treat them with respect.”

Not helpful but he doesn't speak for the Labour party.

Labour has the largest membership by far but don't round around with the impression this has led to an army of activists being created.

A Labour government is the only practical alternative to May's hard Brexit so looks like you've made your choice you can live with May and the worst of what she will do - odd but I guess that's your cognitive dissonance

You're a card carrying Tory whose pathetic party management issues had led to the coming national economic disaster of Brexit - so keep your beak out of Labour Party matters huh and worry about your own shitehouse outfit

Last I heard Labour membership peaked at 550,000 and was down to 540,000 but there were a lot of members due to lapse in the not too distant future.

that's a funny view (both comic and peculiar). apart from the fact the firmness of Brexit depends on the Europeans, any possibility of a Labour government is at least 3 years away, a year after Brexit. so how on earth is Labour offering any practical alternative?

This is like complaining Celtic with their 27 point lead have drawn a game and their lead is down to 25 points

The party membership figures are a fantastic achievement for the party (solving its debt problems for example). Blaming members for the poll ratings is bizarre - the issue is the Labour Party have proposed such a transformation of society that the establishment and it's owned media have closed ranks and are making concerted attacks to drag Labour down.

Shock horror worthwhile change in this country is not easy? Who knew huh?

You are assuming May's shitty deal will get through the Commons - actually when companies start making investment decisions to abandon the U.K, that's when the panic for Tory backbenchers will set in. The government will then fall straight away and the new Labour government that believes in single market access and its responsibilities can negotiate a much better deal for the UK

That's the most realistic plan to stop May's hard Brexit. What's yours?

So you would defend Nuttall's lies about Hillsborough then would you? Mason was being kind given this vomit inducing stuff

Owen Smith received more votes than there are members of the Conservative party last year.

Not sure where I blamed the membership for the poll ratings?

Do you think Labour can win a General Election under Jeremy Corbyn then?

Can I just say that it's this kind of delusional, patronising and disengaging comment from the Corbyn supporters that is probably the biggest single factor in switching off the voters who ultimately will be needed to vote labour if ever this view of utopia is ever to be delivered
