IMG_5651.JPGCelebrated the football in a Mikkeller bar last night. I'm a huge fan of this guy who takes brewing to new and unrivaled level IMHO. Started off with two different IPAs (Stick in the Mud and 20) before moving onto a brown ale, the stunningly balanced and excellent Crooked Moon DIPA and ending with the Beer Geek Vanilla Shake Imperial Oatmeal Stout at 13%. This last beer was silky smooth and cold from the tap giving coffee and vanilla and turns chocolatey when it warmed. Lovely stuff.

I was on the Punk IPA yesterday and it had such an effect on me that I actually watched Glenn Murray's penalty - I never watch penalties so it clearly does reach the parts other beers don't!

Good work. Its a fantastic, and game changing, flagship beer which I always return to. All things considered it's one of the best. And it now has another string to its bow!

I drank plenty of Mikkeller at Christmas.

Keep an eye on To Øl, another Copenhagen based brewery who aren't far off Mikkeller.

I'm very familiar with TOØL and I agree with your view. One of my special Xmas beers was their Redrum Imperial Red Ale which was excellent. Their **** Art series is good as well.

As an aside Imperial Reds and Ambers are seemingly becoming more prevalent which is a good thing.

This triple ipa went down a treat - https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/to-ol-simcoe-mosaic/453540/
This Mikkeller Raspberry Berliner Weisse stood out as well - https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/mikkeller-hallo-ich-bin-berliner-weisse-raspberry/465983/

Got Christmas Day off to a flyer for the son in law and I. Happily I have a friend who brings me supplies back from Belgium.

I've just found out the legend that is Mikkeller is opening a bar 18 minutes walk from my apartment. Two words, **** me.

Popped in to Brewdog Edinburgh tonight. Surprisingly small bar but great barman and enjoyed a nice Siren Pompelmocello. Wasn't brave enough to risk a bottle of Tzatziki Sour - a sour beer with hints of cucumber, mint and ouzo. Maybe another time!

Flew to Italy after the Preston game and been investigating the burgeoning brewing scene. Lots of breweries around Bergamo, but currently enjoying a Brewfist Spaceman West Coast IPA . I had it with Mushroom and Spinach strozzopretti, very good beer, ticks all the right boxes for a hoppy beer

Enjoyed a few pints of Shipyard American Pale Ale on draught last night at my local Wetherspoons.
Pleasantly hoppy and well worth imbibing for those who prefer a lighter brew.

Italy is growing by the month and also spreading globally. We have a dedicated Italian craft bar here now.

Now I'd hate you to think I use this board as a means of self-promotion... a-hem... but if any of you have enjoyed our Lost+Found range I'd love you to vote on Untappd. https://untappd.com/LostFoundabl
If you haven't enjoyed them then don't bother !
Our average rating so far puts us as the second highest rated brewery in the country which is quite something for me and a couple of mates who make it. Once we have 1,000 ratings we can get on the official leaderboard and we're obviously aiming to be number one which will be awesome.

In further news (if you're at all interested) our new APAr3 tastes fantastic so we'll brew that next week.
The naughty 9% DIPA is full of centennial and tasted fantastic*. That'll be brewed the week after.
The guys at Bison Beer will then collaborate with us for a beer after that which is really exciting.
A national wholesaler rang us asking if they could distribute our beer so we could be across the country very soon once we agree a deal.

* Don't drink too much of it at lunchtime on an empty stomach. If (just as an example) one of your wife's friends comes round to say hi in a low cut top and looks hot it could potentially make you look a bit of an arse as your tribute to all she offers as a person may just concentrate on certain parts of her anatomy. Your wife would then be very very angry with you. Just mentioning this as something that could potentially happen and has nothing to do with personal experience last week of course.

Yes, I used 'burgeoning' in my initial post but it's already pretty well established, particularly in the north. The Elav brewery have a bar and bottle shop in Bergamo airport.

I have not been to Italy for many years but a good friend of mine is Italian and he tells me about the scene. The lovely and super enthusiastic guys in Birra Berlin https://en-gb.facebook.com/birra2016/ also keep me up to date. Pretty good given they're a wine country. The more the merrier.

Beer, red wine and coffee are my favourite drinks and Italians do all three very well. Guts are killing me now though....
