Well done you for not surprising me with an intelligent comment for the first time on this thread.Well done you for having ingrained prejudices against the British working classes.I was working for a British company, producing parts for a British quality car, when demand out-stripped supply, before europhiles decided 'buy anything but British' was fashionable.

Which "quality car" did you make?

Just to check. You are actually saying that the reason people didn't buy British cars in those days was because they were prejudiced Europhiles? Nothing to do with most of those cars not being good enough? Out of interest though, what quality British car are you referring to? (I had an uncle with a DB2/4 and that was wonderful. Perhaps it was that.)

Agree. If British products are good enough they'll sell. There's plenty of evidence to back this up.

I suppose they just noted the proportion of people not carrying gas masks and extrapolated it. Your point is?

My point is your side of the argument is always spouting unsupported facts from people that agree with your sentiments.My father was fined and had to buy a replacement gas-mask for leaving his on a train in 1940.I cannot prove this,as it was some time ago,but will leave you with this;

As I was happily and voluntarily working an 80 hour week and I'm still alive,I regard the Eu directive as an ill thought-out abomination. Some people don't mind working for a living!

So you were happy to work twice as long as a standard working week thereby effectively removing an employment opportunity for one of the unemployed.

SO what did you work, a 16 hour 5 day week, a 13 hour 20 minute 6 day week or a 11 hour 26 minute day. No wonder the quality of British cars at the time was appalling with these excessive hours, or was it standing around not doing much just to gain the overtime.

I did not make quality cars, but worked for a company producing parts for a quality British car,as stated.

Okay, which quality British car did you make parts for?

I know I am wasting my time here, but the EU Working time Directive did not prevent the sort of short term high demand, all hands to the pump, needs must, working of long hours for a couple of weeks. It was aimed at stopping companies taking the piss and pushing workers into ill health through prolonged excessive hours. It is a health and safety issue at heart, to be of benefit to the British working classes. I know this will not sink in through your impenetrable EU shield, but quite a lot of the stuff opposed by UK Governments is about benefitting the working classes, consumers and the environment.

Ironic to claim ingrained prejudices with that last statement.

I find your use of ironic, ironic, as Leavers do not have any ingrained prejudices.I'm sure I can find an idiotic quote somewhere to support this!

I wonder why they had to introduce a fine system for not carrying a gas mask?

Do you accept that the last recession was caused by the banks and that we are still in recovery ?. Most privately owned firms had to make the best of it hence wages were frozen for an extended period. Without this many thousands more would have lost there homes/ jobs. Brexit had no bearing on this whatsoever

Excellent, we can concur that Brexit will not cause our LAST recession. However, my argument is that it might well cause the next one.

Why are you seemingly dodging the question about the car you played a part in making?

I worked those hours for 18 months, and a lot of the Sikh guys I was working with would happily have worked even more hours if the company had let them. Our employer insisted on regular medical check-ups as part of our 'Terms and Conditions',so you don't know what you're talking about,as usual.

Everything from when we exit is post Brexit Britain, so you are just saying their will be a recession sometime in the future, one of your better predictions.

I bet you already guessed it was manufactured under a German overlord!

As it took an average of 13 weeks to get people up to the required speed, there were always shortfalls in the numbers required. You have obviously never worked in manufacturing,or never worked.

I'm not sure that the authors of Second World War learning sites can be regarded as 'people that agree with my sentiments'. They just report history.

One or two of us have been asking for details of that quality British car (the demand for which exceeded supply) whose manufacture you contributed to before the Europhiles wrecked its prospects. At the moment that's an unsupported fact. Can I ask again. What was it?
