Can anyone sign Murray in January?

Contrary to the previous replies, I do not believe we have a definitive answer to this.

What I do know* is that we have NOT paid a loan fee for his services. Some have suggested that if you do pay a fee, it bestows stronger 'rights' on the receiving club.

Many have stated that a season long loan can only be terminated early if ALL parties (both clubs and player) agree to do so.

its all about rules of registrations. paying a fee is pretty irrelevant, it becomes a matter of costs if someone wants to buyout such agreements, the rules around registration are firm. so either there is a rule (someone before stated there is) or there isn't.

How long is his contract with Bournemouth? Is it possible that we could buy him, or would that eat too much into the budget, for a striker with pace?

signed 3 years deal in Aug 2015, for £4m, so 18mth left and lets face it at 33 not likely to cost more than £1-2m. and if he wants it to happen, wages can be lower and signing on fees waived.

I have heard his wife has told him he is going nowhere and if he does she is not going with him.

She is a Brighton girl.

Isn't this the same woman that many on here were having a pop at a few years ago because she wanted to move back up North?!

That one left him which was why he was so cut up at Brentford when our delightful fans were chanting ditch the bitch to him. She also took their child with her, which was why he had put in a transfer request previously, trying to save that marriage.
As above, he found happiness locally.

Didn't know any of that. Great to hear.

All we got was that he was sulky and wants to go back up north

Lad looks utterly happy in his skin this season. Plays with a smile on his face which he never did before. He's got the perfect work/life balance right here right now. He lives one street down from me, here in Preston Park. Gets to drop his little un off at nursery in the mornings. Have zero doubt he'd love to see out his playing career here, just like BZ did. Just needs the board to pay the going rate for quality like they (and the muppet manager of the time) didn't, last time he was here. Match made in heaven. Down to the board to not let it f*ck up.

He could be sold in January, hopefully to us. He has proved his worth in this division and would be a good option if we get promoted and bought another striker.

Really hammers home that footballers are people as well.

'Ditch the Bitch' will have really helped him want to perform for us with all that going on wouldn't it...

Glad he found happiness locally, but that must have been a horrendous time for him.

It also shows what muppets a few of our fans are.

Yes, he could be recalled and sold, but he won't be.

He's playing for and wants a contract here next year.
Plus he's not a commodity. He can't just be sold (by Bournemouth) without him actually wanting to be sold.

Many have stated that a season long loan can only be terminated early if ALL parties (both clubs and player) agree to do so. That sounds plausible if there is no recall clause in the deal. In this case, Murray's thoughts are very much influenced by location / work-life balance, so he isn't likely to agree to be sold to say, Sunderland or Celtic.

There is also the FIFA / regulation issue - he's been registered to Bournemouth and Brighton this season - I'm not convinced it is legal for him to register for a third club, save for a short-term loan (when his registration stays with Bournemouth - and that is only permissible to League One or abroad).

*have been told by an impeccable source

Are there any rules in place which limit how many clubs a player can play for in one season?

Currently under the FIFA Transfer Regulations a football player is unable to play for more than three teams in one season. This applies whether the player has been transferred or simply is on loan with that club.

This also applies regardless of what country that player has plied his trade in, whether that is in Europe, Africa or South America. As long as a player has represented a club in a league under the adjudication of a FIFA Member Association they will only be able to play for three different clubs.

However, this does mean that a football player is free to represent a total of three different clubs in any league in the world over the course of one season.

I would suspect a team could purchase him if they wanted but there is likely to be some form of financial penalty to pay for breaking the loan spell, depends what clauses were included

Cheers.

(No offence meant by my using Sunderland as an example of a club that he'd not want to go to, btw. Just plucking out clubs geographically distant at the kind of level likely to be interested, were he available)

None taken at all and fully understand.

To be honest the most viable options are either Bournemouth (recall) or Palace - no point going to a 'close' championship club given the position Brighton are in, and I dont think he is good enough for the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea, the only other possibility for me is Westsham (but again would think they will be looking to buy higher up the food chain)

Although his girlfriend/wife has said she does not want to move - would she be able to turn down the chance for him to earn 2/3 times his current wage for 2/3 more seasons then retire to this nice new house mentioned above. Many footballers now especially at a certain age go to training 1/2 a week for tactical, keep physically fit and travel again for match day.

He's not our player, remember. He's ALREADY sitting on a nice fat Premier League salary, that Bournemouth rather rashly committed to for three years. He'll not likely get a significantly better deal elsewhere.

As alluded to elsewhere on the thread his wife is local and his house is nearly finished. A large chunk of his time when he was at Bournemouth was spent in his father-in-law's cab doing a monstrous commute. The current situation suits him very nicely indeed and I'm sure a permanent signing would suit both parities if circumstances allowed in the summer.

Exactly this. She has a kid with her ex-husband who lives in brighton and has shared custody, so they can't move anywhere too far away unless they take the ex-husband with them! Thus Glenn didn't fancy the commute to Bournemouth.

Can't somebody just Ask The Club outright at the weekly press conference? Now if only we had a locally born and bred 'journalist' worthy of the name on here, they could earn themselves a simple tap-in of a scoop. But we don't.

If only we still had Bozza's old mate Paul C on here, to answer questions like this for us..
