Alan Sugar is of course wrong, given that Spurs are still on course for the Europa League by finishing 3rd so could therefore be in Europe for a lot longer, but in the poor mans CL. Maybe this does signify how the UK will be, doomed for ever to be in the Europa League without the financial benefits of the CL.

It's a joke. A humorous comment.

Gods country fortnightly
i wish you and others would, rather than wallow in doom and despair. nothing today was either unknown nor as bad as projected in May and June, we went forward knowing this, so lets just get on with it. no one, i mean no one is going to reverse the result. it may be in two or three years time the politicans make a deal that changes the complexion of leaving the EU, whine on about economic predictions wont help them.

Trying to be positive there is something good in the budget.

The tax loophole that allows rich parents to avoid tax on independent school fees will be closed, but for some reason it won't be till 2021 (clearly there must be some ministers with kiddies at Eaton).

"Mr Hammond told MPs the UK's deficit would no longer be cleared by 2020 - with the target instead "as early as possible" afterwards."

As early as possible? That's reassuring.

I'm guessing from your spelling that you didn't go there yourself?...

Well if we all go around thinking the worst 24/7 you will never get out of bed. In the end, you will all end up creating your own recession due to all the negativity that gets passed around. You should let off some party poppers.

If somebody came up to you and cut off your arm would you:

a) Be pissed off and angry - you were getting along just fine with two arms, or
b) Grateful to have one left and looking forward to the challenge of life - without the arm - moving forward.

c) Politely make a case, without being threatening, abusive,or condescending that you might better serve the community with both arms. But I suspect you would call them a thicky, racist, little Englander and they would chop your head off, instead!

Listening in while working today I got the impression that everything is fantastic ! The Tory's have turned around the world recession caused by Labour and our economy is booming like never before. Apparently there may be a few clouds on the horizon thanks to the slightly grey areas surrounding brexit but our (low wage ) economy is well placed to take advantage of the huge benefits and opportunities brought about by said brexit. The fact that so many millions of people are in a JAM situation is conveniently overlooked .Never have so many people in this country been in employment, is this because so many people have 2 jobs or more ?

Still, I'm happy, by the next budget I will be lifted from the burden of paying any Income Tax at this rate ! Marvellous !

It's a total and utter mess and there's no plan to get out of it or where to go next and it's all the Tory's doing. Chaos.

We'll pay back the deficit sometime.... did I really hear the chancellor say this?

Surely that was not in Brexit or today's statement.

I see the Chancellor mentioned the OBR's figures that GDP would be 2.4% down at 2020 as compared to where we would have been had we not Brexited.

Ive had a chance to look at the figures being discussed on here. Presumably that's a cumulative yearly figure ? That kind of number is well within forecasting margins of error. As mentioned, the OBR is forecasting without knowing the terms of Brexit and they recognise this to be the case.
My feeling is that this is a lowering of expectations in order that the Tories can subsequently claim success.
The Reuters summary makes for interesting reading : http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-eu-budget-factbox-idUKKBN13I1IB

The forecast losses in growth are short term with the economy resuming previously forecast levels from 2019 onwards. Without knowledge of the assumptions it is very difficult to give credence either to the short term fall in growth or the recovery.

Borrowing is set to rise although interesting to note that overall public sector borrowing as a percentage of GDP will fall to 3.5 % this year and will continue to fall , reaching 0.7 % in 2021/22. Also, interesting that the Government announced a new 23 billion (over 5 years) infrastructure fund. The OBR longer term forecasts will include this figure. Government infrastructure spending is set to increase from 0.8 % of GDP to 1 to 1.2 % although not until 2020.

As ever in budget statements all of these figures seem to beg more questions. There is certainly enough for both Leavers and Remainers to jump on and twist to match/justify their view.
All I can really conclude is that it is a prudent budget with a downward bias to forecasting to reflect the current position where we have not commenced Brexit negotiations.

Its All Too Beautiful
From the @FT comments page. Sums it up for me.

Remainers (left holding the Brexit baby after the Leavers… left) “WTF?”

Leavers “We voted Brexit, now You Remainers need to implement it”

Remainers “But it’s not possible!”

Leavers “The People Have Spoken. Therefore it is possible. You just have to think positively.”

Remainers “And do what exactly?”

Leavers “Come up with a Plan that will leave us all better off outside the EU than in it”

Remainers “But it’s not possible!”

Leavers “Quit with the negative vibes. The People Have Spoken.”

Remainers “But even you don’t know how!”

Leavers “That’s your problem, we’ve done our bit and voted, we’re going to sit here and eat popcorn and watch as you do it.”

Remainers “Shouldn’t you do it?”

Leavers “It’s not up to us to work out the detail, it’s up to you experts.”

Remainers “I thought you’d had enough of experts”

Leavers “Remain experts.”

Remainers “There are no Leave experts”

Leavers “Then you’ll have to do it then. Oh, and by the way, no dragging your feet or complaining about it, because if you do a deal we don’t want, we’ll eat you alive.”

Remainers “But you don’t know what you want!”

Leavers “We want massive economic growth, no migration, free trade with the EU and every other country, on our terms, the revival of British industry, re-open the coal mines, tea and vicars on every village green, some bunting, and maybe restoration of the empire.”

Remainers “You’re delusional.”

Leavers “We’re a delusional majority. DEMOCRACY! So do the thing that isn’t possible, very quickly, and give all Leavers what they want, even though they don’t know what they want, and ignore the 16 million other voters who disagree. They’re tight trouser latte-sipping hipsters who whine all the time, who cares.”

I've never heard whingeing such as is coming from the remoaners, desperate for things to go wrong, but utterly disappointed as we see inflation falling, unemployment down, borrowing down and high street spending up. Yet the left leaning media come sup with, but the experts say that its going to go wrong, Just in Time the former Sainsbury boss tells us that food will go up 5% and the knowledge void Sky reporters tell us that we're in for a hard time.
Why not ask the average man, venture into a sink estate, go onto the factory line or trudge onto a building site and ask real people what they think and want, because the British and I include the Polish and Albanian workers I have see it very differently from the experts. The more this propaganda from the media continues the more resolute the Brexiteers become. If I was to go to war again, I wouldn't be taking any remainers with me, no stomach,no resolve and unable to take an order. Looking forward to Brexit, can't wait for article 50 to be invoked.

By the sound of things our " Booming Economy " is based upon lots of people working their nuts off to stand still and will continue to do so. One of the girls at work finally managed to get a rented place of her own for her and her 5 year old son. It's going to cost her £750 a month on her crap wages, she is already trapped and locked in to having to rent all her life unless she benefits from a Will. This is our future. I take home £1200 a month and am incredibly lucky I have no rent or mortgage to pay otherwise I would be F@@@ed. We have a low wage economy where people are constantly struggling and this budget will change nothing.

You may wish to check your statements for accuracy, such as:

Rising prices for clothes, hotel rooms and petrol have led to the highest rate of inflation in nearly two years, official figures show. Inflation rose to 1.0% in September, up from 0.6% in August, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

So is inflation falling?

Philip Hammond has admitted that the Brexit vote’s blow to the economy would force the government to borrow £122bn more than hoped as he pushed back government plans to balance the books in his autumn statement.

So is borrowing down?

Unemployment saw a "small" rise of 10,000 to 1.66 million, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

So is unemployment down?

Why are real people only found in factory lines or building sites

Come back when you're able to get some content correct.
