Managed four miles at lunchtime and one of them was a shade over 9 minutes without struggling for breath so it's coming back. I still don't feel 100% when running though. No pain but I feel the movement in my left leg is still restricted, and as such my gait has changed. Slightly worried about getting an injury somewhere else due to compensating.

Has anyone else had issues getting their old style back after an injury?

Most definitely - after a shin stress fracture earlier this year, and four months out, I'm now back to pretty much full running fitness, but my running style has definitely changed. I'm not sure how much is physical and how much psychological (partly conscious, partly sub-conscious I think, as I'm concerned about the effects of repetitive impact on concrete) - essentially I seem to be running with shorter steps, and a 'lighter' style of hitting the ground - more of a front foot strike than before. It even sounds different, with less of a percussive sound of feet striking the ground when I run. On balance, I think it's probably beneficial (if my body is trying to protect itself somehow), but my speed has definitely suffered from the new running style. The only races I've done since the injury have been parkruns, but I'm a good 1-1.5 minutes slower than my average speeds prior to the injury. Brooks will be my first proper test this weekend, but again I don't expect to get the same speeds as before the injury.

I am running the Brighton Marathon in April, but haven't started my proper training plan yet. Trying to build up miles and get a good base before Christmas.

Coach at my club is advising not to worry at all about distance before Christmas. Focus should be on getting to year end with a healthy injury free body and be capable of running 10 miles. Now is the time to visit the physio and iron out any niggles and concentrate on injury prevention. My priorities are plenty of gym work focussed on core and leg strength to prevent injury.

Your weekend run was over 40% more climbing than you'll do in the Mouth to Mouth, so no problem if you got knackered on the hills. Just need to make sure you recover and are biting at the bit for race day with a 3 week taper. Good luck.

Thanks, thats made me feel better! I was only going to taper for 2 weeks and try and fit in another long one next week but bearing in mind how tiring it was I might start the taper this week which would be 3 weeks in total.

Relax - unless you're up with the leaders you'll find virtually everyone walking the uphills on things like M2M - always the case on trail marathons. If you try running them you'll be a) hardly any quicker anyway and b) sh*gged out when you get to the top. When you're training, get used to fast, purposeful hiking, particularly uphill (I have walked past people who were 'running' many times) - it's essential for long offroad events.

Thats a relief to hear that! I am finding it quite difficult as I have never run these sorts of distances to get myself in the right mindset regarding the hills and pacing etc.

Been training really hard with the aim of beating my personal best in the Brooks 10K this Sunday - Just had a look at the weather and saying 40mph + winds and rain. That's any chance of a good time gone.

Yep. 50mph Southerlies blowing across your bow. Last year had 40 mph westerlies, slow you on the way out and speeds you up on the way home. Not sure what the Southerly will do to time. Good luck.

Still rheumatoid myself and have cancelled the 5 week Annapurna Trek at the end of the month. Getting there slowly (11 weeks now) and penciled in January for a running return. Looking forward to a weekend on the razz in Cardiff now.....

Had an interesting run this morning. I did my usual 8 mile loop around the city in the dark at 6am but found that there was fencing up in and around parts of Tiergarten and armed police officers everywhere. I was directed back out but found the path blocked. I was then advised to follow the fencing down to the side of Brandenburg gate but eventually found myself trapped in an apex of security fencing and was now starting to cause concern for myself and the police. And by this time I'd picked up another person in a similar situation. We eventually were escorted through the cordon, across the secure area and out a gate by armed police. Turns out the whole area around the gate, park and the Adlon Hotel was locked down for Barak Obama's visit.

This never happens in Worthing.

Just signed back up with the same coach as last year for marathon training. Look out knocky1 I have some unfinished business with sub-4!

She's going to earn her corn this time though. I have my running mojo back but all my body is capable of is 3 to 4 miles at 10.00s.

Been there done that in 2014. This year I went for sub 3:40 or bust. Unfortunately it was the latter. I can't crack the marathon nor you at the marathon, yet.

Pace (miles)08:47 min/mile

As it stands I will be happy to walk 10 miles by next April. Given a massive steroid jab in the backside yesterday and have been told not to exercise till next appointment just before Christmas even if inflammation goes down. Still confident I can beat you at BM as long as I can run before February. Fingers crossed I can get to the start line and the handicapped race is on!

Worthing parkrun for me. Perfect conditions; the calm before the storm. 22:01 - a bit disappointing but I ran 3+ miles to the start. Pity anyone doing an event tomorrow!

Good time especially after the 3 miles.

Rain now forecast to be clear by 8am with only light showers to follow. Still very windy though. Need to use fellow runners as a shield. Someone on here taught me that.

Can anyone confirm what the course is for the Brooks tomorrow?
The info sent out with the race numbers suggests it's the same as last year (3.5 k west to King Alfred, 5K East to Marina, then turn and a final 1.5 to the start).
The website, however, suggests that it's reverted to the 2014 course (all on the road, and starting in an easterly direction).
