Much as I don't support Trump at all this result is a backlash against the political elite that has ruled most of the Western world for decades - as was Brexit - and indeed Greece. Next will be Spain, France, Italy and The Netherlands. I wonder how long before the political elite get the hint and actually start to listen to the people ?

EDIT - and those MP's planning of trying to hinder A50 should take careful note.

UK foreign policy will now basically have to fawn over Trump and keep telling the narcissist how great he is.

I hope Boris realises this, and it's something I'm sure he's good at.

May should get on the phone to Farage and offer him a new job ... US ambassador. Silver linings, we are no longer at the back of the queue for trade deals and the £ will probably gain some lost ground.

Not really. It just shows what idiots people are, same as Brexit.

Groveling appologies required by those outspoken detractors who recklessly nailed their colours to the mast. They include Westminster, the Regions, the Establishment, and all the Media. They haven't learned a thing over recent British elections!

We now have to find a path to a smooth relationship with the new president of our best friends and soul mates. I hope Trump is more conciliatory than you lot?

In all seriousness, Clinton will get at least 300 electoral votes, I actually think she'll get to 350. Florida is in the bag, which is the election, but the question is how much of a win it's going to be. It might be close in the popular vote, but in terms of the overall final score, it's not going to be close.

Remind me not to take any notice of your "predictions" in the future.

BBC World Service interviewed Beijing University students this week. They said they wanted Trump to win as Clinton would be more critical of their human right abuses!

Like them or not, a lot of people have sided with them. A mass of the populace seem to be so determined to shake up the old order, the ruling elite, that any change is acceptable, however risky it may seem. They are good communicators and both appear strong and charasmatic leaders and speak their minds, however much that offends some others. This garners popular appeal and fills people with real hope of change. What a lot of people don't want is a continuation of the present. To them, that is unacceptable and any change, however difficult, is welcome.

Popular appeal and convincing words. Let's now see the deeds.
