Some Reading fan starting a rumour that we paid £3 million for Norwood (1 year left on his contract) now they all believe it. They're delusional, right?

£1.5/2 million max i would say?

Wouldn't that then be out record transfer fee? You'd think if we broke a record it would be something used for marketing spin.

Can see Norwood starting most away games and sacrifice one winger. In home games where we start with two wide men he might more often be first off the bench to protect a lead.
His inclusion might allow Kayal (rather than Stephens) to play further upfield (remember the impact in his first game as a sub v Forest?) but would it be very surprising to see Knockaert in the No 10 role ahead of Baldock allowing Murphy/March/Skalak to start out wide?

Much as I see it. However, note that Burnley won home and away against the bottom seven clubs last season. So not all away games, just some of them.

I go for Knockaert in a 4-4-1-1 as the man behind the striker. We can only play on one wing at a time.

Not sure what out best side is since quite some time now. Now I don't know what our best formation is.

(PS: I don't like 4-1-4-1 when we are protecting a lead, or at all.)

I think that Stephens offers more as goal scoring threat than Kayal. This signing will probably see the end of LR being used as the right defensive midfielder in away games and perhaps he is being prepared as the alternative to Bruno but not Bong I hope.

Agreed. Not an opportunity we'd miss even in the midst of the disappointment of losing out on Pritchard.
My guess would be north of £1.5m and south of £2m depending on sell-ons etc.

Sounds reasonable for the away games, such a sturdy and battling midfield. If Kayal was to go forward, though, I want him to buy some new shooting boots, as that side of his costume doesn't seem to fully fit right at present.

Someone said on NSC yesterday that someone was at Lancing having a medical. He was slated. Perhaps he is owed an apology.

Agree about his goalscoring record. He scored two really good goals last season (one ended up in the goal of the year list vs Bolton) but he very rarely does score. You would hope he could match Stephens goals last season (seven I think)

For those who are underwhelmed or perhaps disappointed with Norwood, let's not forget he was statistically the second best CM in the league last year, was in the WhoScored.com TOTS, completed more key passes than Kayal and Stephens COMBINED, etc etc. In my opinion he'll give Dale and Beram a real run for their money.

Hes a decent player Kayal and Stephens need to perform to stop this guy taking their place.

I think he might be one of those players that fans don't appreciate judging by some Huddersfield and Reading fans but he's been picked for most Reading games over the last two years, started every game for Northern Ireland at the Euros and seems to have had a number of scouts watching him.

A player is only as good as the team around him or the instructions given by the coaching staff.

Take united last season under Van Gaal, negative slow sideways football - look a different team under Mourinho already. I think Chris will get the best out of him.

Exactly. We signed Stephens in very similar circumstances... 25 years-old, similar fee (according to reports), and from a club that underperforms. If he made it into a TOTS for Reading then it excites me to think of what he can do for us.

Absolutely. I did wonder if we were a central midfielder short as we do play 4-3-3 occasionally and Towell is untried. Norwood, Sidwell, Kayal and Stephens are four great options and we have Towell too. I am confident we're finished in central midfield now. And, as others have pointed out, if Kayal and/or Stephens leave either this summer of next year, we've got a replacement who can go straight in.

Ryan Harley was never as good as the team around him when he was here :moo:

Seems like a very good signing giving us depth and options in midfield. Is this the best midfield depth wise we've ever had? Kayal, Stephens, Norwood, Sidwell, Knockeart, Skalak, March, Murphy and Lua Lua.

We are so close to being an excellent team and squad. One more player for defensive cover and that elusive striker/striker-ish and we'll be gunning for automatic promotion. Exciting exciting exciting!*

*Unless we sell half the squad between now and the end of the month:tantrum:**

**No real reason to suspect we will though:albion2:
