He will screw up and resign in fairly short order (hopefully) never to be heard of again.
Talking of which, does anyone know if as Foreign Secretary he HAS to give up his newspaper column, or if that is discretionary (accepting of course that he has no discretion)?

I remember when George Brown had to give up because of all his "tired and emotional" episodes, which made Charlie Kennedy's look insignificant.

My father once met him walking across the Downs above Jevington (where he lived towards the end of his life) and he pompously pronounced on being greeted: "I PREFER not to be recognised". I once saw him parked at the East end of the old Polegate station up platform, waiting to board the solitary first-class compartment in the front carriage up to town to collect his House of Lords allowance.

Boris Johnson turns on David Cameron after PM claims he privately said he's never been a 'Leaver'

The bitter personal row between David Cameron and Boris Johnson intensified last night after the Prime Minster claimed that the former Mayor of London had privately told people he had "never been a leaver".

Mr Johnson insisted that he had "been a eurosceptic for decades" as he dismissed David Cameron's plans for a sovereignty law as a "farce", adding that no one could "credibly claim" that the EU has been successfully reformed.

The clash came after the Prime Minister insisted that he does not weant the EU referendum to turn into a "Tory psycho-drama" between himself, Mr Johnson and Michael Gove, the Justice Secretary.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...-boris-johnson-privately-said-he-would-never/

Are you really quoting a link back to me quoting Johnson himself 1 month before the referendum as countering proof that he wasn't previously pro-EU or a serial liar?

Well I don't think she's a moron, that would be my last guess as to the reason. I'm also willing to believe that Boris is less of an idiot than we all think (which wouldn't be difficult), but I'm as surprised as everyone. I'm hoping she's not being devious, I don't think that's the direction our leader should be taking right now. We'll see I guess.

I certainly wouldn't characterise BJ as an idiot or moron. He's bright and popular. But diplomatic he has never been. Agree with you on the devious bit, and also that we'll have to wait and see.

Whats quite funny is London voted twice to keep him as Mayor of London yet majority of Londoners voted remain. So he must have something to offer.

No it was just that Ken Livingtone didn't, as can be seen by what he has said and done since then. Maybe Ken has also problems with resembling a newt sometimes...

It would be interesting to know when we had a Foreign Secretary who spoke (I guess fluently) as many other languages as Boris does. That MUST make a difference in communications.

But as R4 pointed out this morning how will they be able to split his job off from the "Ministry of Brexit" effectively? That Ministry will need to exist until at least 2020 if not longer.

Good point. Foreign Secretary role has been carved up into several bits, but the volume of issues it has to deal with has just risen dramatically.

Liz Truss is the new Secretary of State for Justice and Cheese.

I hope she will pursue the prison reform initiated by Gove.

Another Lord(?) Chancellor with no legal qualifications?

and her department is now to include higher education, skills and apprenticeships.

Maybe Boris will be given "Foreign non-European" status. Will help across the pond that he was born in NY.

Rumours linking him to Putin might be reinforced, as apparently Moscow is rubbing its hands at the confusion now reigning in Brussels and elsewhere over when Clause 50 will be invoked.
